Differ About Beating
Portland, Ore., May 6 U.R) Mrs. Ramona Humphries Laurion
29, said Thursday she had parted company with Mike De Cicco,
newly-elected treasurer of the stale democratic central committee.

co at Gearhart, Ore., last Mon
day.
"I'm definitely through with
him. I'm going home to De
troit," said Mrs. Laurion. She
boarded an airliner at the Port
land airport.
De Cicco told police that four
friends of Mrs. Laurion two
sailors from Astoria and two ci
vilians broke into his Gear
hart cottage and manhandled
him.
De Cicco, a Portland tire
dealer, said he had been em-1 ft
ploying Mrs. Laurion for a year
and a half as an office worker
and caretaker of his home.
"She was discharged by

"I was alone in the house.
One of the sailors started to
come in through the door and
I socked him. Another one
started to come in and 1 hit him.
There were two others. I could-
n t handle four of them, so I
ran out and called state po
lice." Kirs. Laurion's version differ
ed. "There weren't any civilians
with me, and the two sailors
didn't lay a hand on him," Mrs.
Laurion said. "They hardly got
out of the car, which was park
ed outside.
"I've been cooking his meals.
He was supposed to be home
for supper at 6:30 p.m. Monday,
but he didn't show up. So I got
a car and drove tn his beach
I"!! home. I picked up two sailor
in Astoria.
'When we arrived at the cot-
car in the ga
rage. As I entered the house, he
went out the back door. No one
touched him. The sailors were

District Attorney Garnett police said De Cicco hid in the

In the tradition of the old
time circus of long ago. down
town Salem Saturday afternoon
at 3:30 will be the scene of a
modern parade, heralding the
opening of the Boy Scout circus
at Sweetland field at 7:30 Sat
urday evening.
Nearly 3Uuu Cub, Boy and
Senior Scouts will be in the line
of march winding through the
business section. Scouts v. ill
gather from 2:30 to 3 o'clock
at Marion square, with the pro
cession moving at 3:30 sharp
The marchers will travel
south on Commercial to State
a 1 1 to Liberty, north to
Court, east on Court to High,
south on High to Ferry and east
on Ferry to Sweetland field,
disbanding point.
There they will prepare for
the big show that night before
the grandstand. Immediately
Lions club, sponsoring the cir
cus, are to serve supper to all
acouts.
Grand entry parade will be
gin promptly at 7:30, opening a
fast-moving program present
ing scouts in an absorbing series
of events. There will be no dull
moments. Clowns are prepared
to see to that.
Scouts of Cascade Area coun
ell will be on hand from all
parts of Marion, Polk and Linn
counties to prove their skill and
prowess at Willamette valley
scoutdom's biggest annual
vent. Carl Aschenbrenner is
general chairman of the circus,
assisted by Lions club commit
tees assigned to various show
details.
Lion Monroe Cheek is gener
al coordinator, ringmaster, for
the entire circus to see that the
how clicks as neatly as Ring
ling Brothers best.
Curly's Milk Now Distributed In Square Paper Packages .
Newly installed machine at Curly's dairy seals milk in para
fined, sterile paper cartons in quart, pint and half pint sizes.
These square, sealed containers are discarded after one usage.
No other machine of this kind is operating in Salem and very
few have been distributed in Oregon.

The West Salem Girls' league,
advised by Mrs. Ora Smith,
sponsored a Mothers' day tea for
the mothers of the girls in the
Girls' league. It took place Fri
day, May 6 at 3:10 p.m. in the
home economics room.
The committees for the tea
were as follows: The invitation
committee included Karen John
son, Dixie Avritte. Marcie Hel
ten and Angela Hartman; the
corsage committee, Nancy Rust,
Louise Owens, Suzy Piatt, and
Shirley Wayt; the program com
mittee, Glenda Fox, Jeanne
Nordone, and Christy Jacobson;
the food committee, Anne
Ritchey, Barbara Culbertson
and Cathy Singer.
Those who participated in the
program were Kay Stoddard.
Shirley Wayt, Jane Barlow,
Betly Zycsst, Shirley Curtis.
Delores Curtis, Barbara Watts.
and Jaenne Nordone.
The refreshments were made
by the girls' cooking classes un
der the direction of Mrs. Smith.
Bill Hanauska, the bovs' gvm
class Instructor, has started a
badminton, ping-pong and horse
shoes tournament for the sev
enth, eighth and ninlh grade
boys' gvm classes.
The boys are plavmg the
tournament games at noon.
