Pointing out that many per

that the situation here be kept
open for OPA action if that step

Sample Copies
Furlough Form
A samDle copy of the applica
tion form and instructions to en
listed men of World War H in
applying for their unused term
inal leave or furlough pay was
received this week by the de
partment of veterans' affairs,
from Major Gen. G. B. Erskine,
re-training and re-employment
administrator.
An accompanying letter to Di
rector George E. Sandy said that
all community advisory centers
and county veterans' service of
fices would receive the sample
forms shortly.
Although postoffices will re
ceive supplies soon for veterans,
the sample form will enable ser
vice officers to study the instruc
tions and be ready to help veter
ans make their applications
when the time comes, Sandy
said. Earlier doubt as to whether
photostatic copies of discharges
would be accepted as proof of
military service was clarified
as follows:
"We know you were glad to
learn that the armed forces acted
favorably on the recommenda
tion that photostatic copies of
discharge papers, as well as or
iginals, will be accepted."
"Pass," "liberty," or periods
of temporary duty are not
chargeable as leave or furlough,
nor are sick, convalescent, or he
habilitation leave, but "delay en
route" will be, the instructions
indicate.
Nearly one million man-days
every year are tied up in fight
ing forest fires in the U.S.
