8 Capital Journal, Salem. Orejron. Tuesday, May 21, 1916 East Salem Schools Close With Programs This Week East Salem, May 21 This will be graduation week for all East Salem eighth graders. Two schools, Fruitland and Middle Grove will have their exercises Wednesday night. There are only three in the class at Fruitland, Ruth Clique, Darrcll Klampc and James Stewart. Mrs. Carmellta Wcddle will be the speaker Kenneth O. Runner as chairman of the school board will present the diplomas. Mrs. C. E. Den hem is the eighth grade teacher. There are eight in the Middle Grove class, Sabra Blankcnship. Joan Scharf, Arril Andrews, Lu ella Candle, Joyce Kuenzi, Al len Dornbush and Edward Struck. Their teacher is Mrs Ethel Ramus. There are ten in the Auburn class and their exercises will be Friday night, at 8 o'clock. Mem bers of the class are Leila Beach, LaJune Rahtz, Hazel Stowcll, Dcloris' Castor, Susan Steed, Dorothy Patzer. Ronald Mourner , Keith Jenson, Harold Solm, and Jack Sargent. The class address will be by Mrs. Wcddle. Swcgle exercises will also be Friday night. There are 11 in the class. The speakers will be Rev. Dudley Strain and Mrs. Helen Gwinn of Eugene, a teach er in the schools at Eugene. Mrs. E. M. Bankton is their teacher Rickey exercises were held Thursday. There were 13 In the class: Marlene Perkins, Vivian Mahrt, Wayne Mercer, Velva Howard, Ruth Chrisman, Jim Stewart, Milton Rickman, Jack Richards, Ronald York, Elva Crabb, Leo Gentemann, Gay Clearwater and Violet Smith. Mrs. Emma DcLapp was their teacher. The address was by Carlton Grcidcr on "Booby Traps." Diplomas were given by the chairman of the board, Claude Ashby. Marlene Perkins was valedictorian of her class and Vivian Mahrt salutatorian. The annual school picnic for Rickey will be Friday. The members of the eighth grade class of Swcgle were en tertained by the seventh grad ers Friday night with a lawn party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Frame on Hollywood Drive. Members of the seventh grade class arc Marilyn Kufner, Shirley Evans, Dolores Werner, Loretta Robins, Jim McCollum, Glenn Straw and Roy Kennedy. Teachers of the school were guests. Child Evangel Rally Will Close Season Woodburn There will be a child evangelism rally at the Church of God, corner of Third and Grant streets, Thursday at :i::iO o'clock. This will close the classes In the city for the summer. Parents and friends are urged to attend as the pro gram is prepared especially for them. Bombers Blast U-Roaf Pens Wiesbaden, Germany, May 21 i.P) American and Britain's heaviest bombers are striking at the $50,000,000 submarine pens near Bremen with "earth shock" bombs in the largest ex perimental air bombardment launched in Europe since the end of the war, it was officially disclosed today. Four-cngincd B-29's. which never f!cw in combat over Ger many, together with B-17 Fly ing Fortresses and British Lan caster, arc shuttling between Bremen and the RAF central bomber establishment at Mar ham, England, for the conlinu inR tests. A statement by U. S. air forc es headquarters here said the purpose was to determine "the full possibilities of destroying the massive targets by earth shock." British-developed bombs ranging up to 22,000 pounds and American 4500-pound "rocket assisted" armor-piercing bombs arc used. The statement did not men tion whether Soviet observers had been invited, but none has witnessed the tests.
