Choir to Present Sunday Program The choir of the First Pres byterian church presents its traditional Christmas vesper muslcale Sunday evening at 4:30 o'clock. Virginia Ward Elliott, director of music, has arranged the program and Mrs Ealph Dobbs will be the or ganist. A new feature this year is that the service will be by can dlelight. The choir in its pro cessional will walk down the center aisle and will sing from the main platform instead of the choir loft. There will be a piano and organ number, Bach's Sheep May Safely Graze , by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dobbs. Two of the most popular num bers on the program are the familiar "Shepherd's Story" by Dickinson and the inspirational Christiansen number, "Lost in the Night." Yamhill, Newberg, January 7. McMinnville, January 8-9, Inclusive. Griebenow Speaks Sunday Morning The guest speaker for the Christian and Missionary Alli ance church next Sunday morn ing will be Rev. Marion Griebe now. Twenty four years ago he and his wife went out as mis sionaries to the land of Tibet one of the last regions to be reached by evangelical mission aries. The usual length of term . Is six years, but because of the war and resultant conditions this term was lengthened to nine years. Rev. Griebenow was flown by the U.S. 14th air force from near Labrang of Tibet to Chung king and thence to Shanghai, KARI, H. Griebenow's former home is in Salem. His brother Paul, lives on Fairview avenue. In the evening the Alliance church will be presenting the second half of their Christmas program. Salem Friends to Sponsor Play The South Salem Friends church at South Commercial and Washington are having a Christmas program Sunday morning at the Sunday school hour. All the classes are parti cipating with songs and exer cises and a group under the di rection of Elizabeth Aebischer is giving a play, "The Well of the Star." A treat has been prepared for the boys and girls. There will be no evening service but at 4:30 p.m. a ves per service has been planned. Special music by the choir and Lutherans Plan Three Programs The American Lutheran church will sponsor a series of three programs in connection with the Christmas celebration. Sunday evening at 7 o'clock the Sunday school departments will be featured in a mixed pro gram with the pageant, "The Wisest Wiseman," highlighting the production. The 30-voice vested choir will take part. Christmas eve from 11 to 12 o'clock, Rev. M. A. Getzendaner, D.D., will speak concerning "The Carols of the Heavenly Hosts." The program will in clude the singing of carols by the congregation as well as solos by Lillian Coward and Louis Ramus, Jr. At 11 o'clock Christmas morning, Rev. "V"! - Long Needy List In Army Hands A total of ,124 needy families in Salem, or 513 individuals, are listed with the Salvation army for Christmas cheer help, which will be mainly food and clothing, from the proceeds of the kettles appearing on the streets before holiday week, and which will be on the streets three more days. Of the 124 families listed, some names have been furnish ed the army by the Red Cross, some by the public, welfare of fice and others have been other wise listed.
