C. Higgins, became the bride of Lt. Walter Achterman, United States army medical reserve, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Achterman of Eugene. Rev. George Herbert Swift, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Mr. and Mrs. Eddie J. Kelm, shown after their marriage June 12 at Calvary Baptist church. The bride Is the former Miss Irene Poole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Poole of Stayton, and Mr. Kelm, who is serving with the United States marine corps, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Kelm, of Clovis, N. M. (Jesten-Miller.) 1AJ. $oard and Cliairmen deted at tinner oCadt li venin 9 Miss Phebe McAdams, retiring president of the Salem Business and Professional Women's club, entertained with a buffet dinner at her home in South Twelfth street, Wednesday night, in com pliment to her executive board and committee chairmen. Din ner was served from an antique walnut table, which was centered with spring flowers in tones of pink and white, flanked with pink candles. At the business session which followed the dinner hour a gift was presented to Miss McAdams by the group. During the past year the B.P.W. club observed its 25th anniversary and sev eral events were planned in celebration of the event. The Salem club has participated in every war bond drive, contri buted $125 to the Chinese nurses' fund and gained 35 It percent in membership. Mrs. Elizabeth McKain was wel welcomed as a new member. Among those attending were Miss Ida May Smith, who will be installed as the president for 1945-46 at the next meet ing, Mesdames Carmelita Wed dle, Marion Wooton, Mabel Clock, Ruth Voorhies, Wini fred Herrlck, Lydia Wootten, Winnie Pettyjohn, Jessie B. Conroy of Salem, Oregon. She and Major Conroy, i n charge of ocean traffic for the Persian Gulf command, for more than two years a vital supply line to Soviet Russia, were mar ried last January 24 in Teheran Iran. The daughter of a Polish ar my colonel, she will enter the University of Oregon from which her husband was gradu ated in 1942. John J. Elliotts Entrain for East Lt. Col. and Mrs. John J. El liott will leave for Wilmington Del., Friday, where Colonel El liott will report for duty. Col onel Elliott recently returned to the States after 20 months . of service in England. The Elliott children, Joan and John J. Elliott, Jr., will remain in Salem for the summer. W. Wells Baums Honored Guests Mr. and Mrs. Merrill D. Ohl ing were hosts at a buffet dinner at their South High street home last night in compliment to Lt. Col. and Mrs. W. Wells Baum. Colonel Baum is home on leave from Grand Island, Neb., where he is stationed as a flight sur geon. Eighteen friends were bidden to honor the Baums. Dr. and Mrs. Burton A. My ers and Mr. and Mrs. George Croisan will entertain Saturday night at the former's, home in Walnut Park honoring Colonel and Mrs. Baum. Mrs. Alma M. Damm Is being welcomed home from a three months' stay in the east. While In the east Mrs. Damm visited her daughter, Crystal Oliver, and spent several days in Chi cago, Topeka and Denver. Mrs. Coburn L, Grabenhorst and her little thre-months-old son, Coburn Grabenhorst, Jr., who left for their home In Walla Walla early in the week after a visit in the capital with Mr. and Mrs. George Grabenhorst. Lt. Commander Grabenhorst is now serving in the Pacific. (Jesten-Miller.) church, read the service in the presence of the two families and an assemblage of friends. The altar was graced with arrangements of white flowers, greenery and burning cathedral tapers. Preceding the ceremony Miss Margery Knoles of Port land sang "Until" and "Through the Years." William Utley played the wedding marches and accompanied Miss Knoles. Miss Sybil Spears and Miss Emma Lou East, close friends of the bride, lighted the altar tapers. They wore pastel suits and corsages of summer flow ers. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a hand some soft green wool tailleur with a smart white hat and white accessories. She carried a white prayer book tooped with an orchid. Miss Marion lAchterman of Portland, sister of the bride groom, was the bride's only at tendant. She wore a tailleur of rose wool with white hat and accessories and a corsage of white flowers. Dr. Robert Toon of Portland was best man for Lt. Achter man. For her daughter's marriage Mrs. Higgins wore a lovely model of blue crepe with navy blue hat and accessories and a corsage of pink flowers. Mrs. Achterman wore a gown of navy blue lace with a large blue hat and accessories. Her corsage was also of pink flow ers. Directly after the ceremony the couple received their guests in the reception rooms of the church. The serving table was cen tered with a striking arrange ment of white summer flowers guarded by tall white tapers. Other appointments of the bride's table were in silver and crystal. Mrs. G. F. Chambers and Miss Dorathea Steusloff cut the bride's cake and presided at the urns. Assisting were a group of the bride's friends, includ ing Mrs. Wallace Wittwer, Miss Carol Young, Miss Sally Mc Clelland, Miss Emma Lou East and Miss Sybil Spears. The bride was recently gradu ated from Oregon State college, where she was a member of Del ta Delta Delta. She has been a popular member of the youn ger set in Oregon s capital. Lt. Achterman is a gradu ate of the University of Oregon Medical school. He Is a member of Delta Upsilon social fraterni ty and Alpha Kappa Kappa med ical fraternity. H. Lutz and her daugh ters, Miss Dona Lutz and Miss Joyce Feiden, will entrain on Thursday night for Camarillo, California, where they will make their home. Mrs. Lutz came north recent ly from Camarillo, where Dr. Lutz is on the staff of the Cali fornia state hospital, to make the trip south with her daugh ters, who have been residing here until the en of the school year. Miss Lutz was graduated from Salem high school this year and Miss Feiden was a junior at Willamette university, where she is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and was re cently chosen as senior scholar in speech and drama for the coming school year. Miss Thelma Schwichtenberg of Salem has returned from a visit with friends in Carbon dale, Colo. Ann Judson circle of First Baptist church will meet Fri day night at 7:45 o'clock at the church. Mrs. Floyd Seamster Auxiliary President Salem Lions' auxiliary will meet for dinner at the Croisan Creek home of Mrs. A. C. Haag at 6:30 o'clock this evening. Installation of officers will be held.
