Howard, D.D., officiated at the profession and investment ceremony of eight young women of the Benedictine Convent Queen of Angels at a solemn nign mass aaiuraay morning, the feast of Saint Scho lastics, foundress of their order. Earlier in the morning, at the Archbishop's mass, six golden Jubilarians solemnly renewed their vows and received the ring and golden crown, symbolic of their 50 years in the master's service. The "Jubilate Doo" was sung at the offertory in honor of the jubilarians. Making their simple perpetual profession were Sister M. Mir iam of Roseburg. and Sister M. Alberla Of Mt. Angel. The twojwrrr Rev. Umiln Dolierty. Gervals: Rev. young women pronouncing their triennial vows were Sister M. Mercedes Schiedler and Sister M. Antoinette Traeger, both of Mt. Angel. The f o u r young women in vested in the bencdictine habit Spanish Play Draws Capacity Audiences Mt. Angel A mixed cast of Mt. Angel Academy and Mt. An gel High school students pre sented the old Spanish play, "Marchela," to a capacity crowd in the academy auditorium, Sunday afternoon and Monday evening. In this three-act romantic play, Lorraine Brettracger. sen ior from Portland, played the leading femcnine role as Mar chela, with Vincent Traeger, senior at Mt. Angel high, as the main masculine character. Supporting these two char acters in the cast were Leroy Obcrsinncr. Moss Hamilton; Jeannctte Hoffcr, Juanita Mon tcz; Louie Turin, Carlos Cortez and Don Phillipo; Mary Eliza beth MacNcill, Isabella; Dolbcrt Dilter, Pedro; Angela Smith, Senora Florez; Bette Kastigar, Mrs. Robert Southmore; Hcglna Hoffcr, Mrs. Sheridan; Joe Hauth. Don Montez; Lola, Mau reen Wcllman. Sister M. Mar garet, O.E.B., directed the play. Singing and musical arrange ments were provided by the academy glee club and music students. v Farm Demonstration Rickreall Thursday Dallas Several Polk county fanners and homemakers will assist tn tile farm and home labor saving equipment demon stration which will be held at the Rickreall grange hall Thursday at 10 a.m., by show ing their own home-made labor-savers and by being in charge of some of the exhibits, according to County Agent W. C. Leth. The demonstration, sponsor ed by the stale farm labor of fice in the OSC extension ser vice in cooperation wllh the local extension service office, will Include many different pieces ot farm machinery and Home equipment designed to save the time and effort of rural people. Mrs. Elmer Wadsworth of Harrisburg, daughter of J. T. Jones. Is in the Albany General hospital where she underwent a major operation. The new school bus which was driven here from the fac tory at Detroit, Mich., by N. D. Bradley, was used last week to transport the pupils to and from school. Marquam Methodists Plan Tamale Supper Silverton The Marquam Methodist Ladies' Aid society are yielding to popular demand, and are serving a second home made tamale supper at the church hall. Thursday. February 22. In be followed by a Wash ington's birthday program. The annual tamale supper was in November when the society members made 800 chicken la males and could have disposed of 200 more. The general pub lic will be served at the 6:30 hour. All members of the society help in making these well known lamales under direction of the officers. The drive, spon sored by the Dallas civilian de fense unit and Carl B. Kenton post, American Legion and auxi liary, with headquarters at the Mountain Stales Power com pany rooms, was concluded here Friday night. Participating organizat ions whose representatives assisted East Salem Woman Honored Before Joining Red Cross East Salem, Feb. 13 Mr. and Mrs. Dillon Jones were hosts for a farewell party at their home on Garden Road honoring Miss Ruby West, Miss Marion Thrasher of Swcgle district and Miss Jean Hanson of Salem who loft Salem Monday for Fort Lewis. They have en rolled as Red Cross army nurse's aides and are the first group to leave Salem for this particu lar branch of the service. Pres ent for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Thratcher. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Dawes, Mr. and Mrs. James Lyke. Mrs. William McKinncy and Robert McKin ney. February is one of the busi est months of the school term for Auburn school pupils. This past week the special project was collecting bundles for the Russian War Relief. On Fri day, February 16, they will col lect salvage paper and bring it to the schoplhouse. The sixth grade is working 'on the annual flag contest and work on the health posters and Ameri can Legion poppy posters has been started in the art classes. There will be no school work for the students Wednesday and Thursday of this week as one of the three language art work shops to bo held in Marion county during the week of Feb ruary 12 to 16 will be at their school on those two days. Be tween 60 and 70 Marion county teachers are expected to attend. An in structive lesson was given by Miss Marjorie Tye as she cooked a meal which was planned to provide the amount of vitamin C necessary for both adults and children. Food lists were giv en which provide the require ments of vitamin C and the foods which may be grown in the winter gardens of the Wil lamette valley. Bottles, placed in various lo cations in the business district for contributions, were remov ed Saturday evening, when the drive was officially ended. Through the medium of bot tles and certain miscellaneous contributions received by him, a total of S257.24 was recorded by Blackley. Clyde Gibbs. Dallas Dime March chairman, had previous ly reported over S200 turned in, and Mrs. Irene Adam, owner of the Majestic theatre, reported S250 taken in at theatre col lections conducted during the January 14-31 period. The sum exceeds by SI 50 the amount subscribed locally last year, Blackley said. Smith to Chairman Boy Scout Campaign Silverton Dr. A. L. V. Smith will serve as chairman of the annual Boy Scout drive for Sil verton with the goal set at $750 from this community for this year.
