World Communion Day will
bp observed by the Salem Coun
cil of Churcliwomcn at Knighl
Memorial church November 3,
it was announced this week
end. The observance is one of
three including World Day of
Prayer and the May Fellowship
observance.
The day's sludy will revolve
around the theme of "Endur
ing Peace." Problems of relief
and rehabilitation, .economic in
dependence and matters of con
cern in the homeland will be
included in the discussions. Inter-denominational,
inter-racial
and inter-faith, will all be stress
ed. Mrs. A. C. Hausske will be the
fuatured speaker, choosing as
her subject "Relief and Rehabili
tation in China." Mrs. Hausske
is the wife of a former mission
ary teacher in China and after
the outbreak of war the couple
worked in concentration camps
and cared for several hundred
children.
Mrs. Hausske served as dean
of women at Pacific university
last year. She recently returned
from San Francisco, where she
spoke before the Post-war Chi
nese Relief Council.

Allen Voves, seaman first class.

Voves of Salem, at St. Mary's
Catholic church in Astoria,
Saturday morning, October 14,
at f) o'clock.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore white bro
caded satin, fashioned with full
skirt, fitted bodice and finger
tip veil held in place by a Mary
Stuart cap of matching mater
ial. She carried a shower bou
quet of gardenias, bnuvardia
and orchids, and carried her
mother's prayer book.
For her bridesmaid she chose
her sister. Miss Doris Whitlock
of Seattle, whose gown was pale
green brocaded satin, puffed
sleeves, tight bodice, full skirt.
Her flowers were pink carna
tions. Louis Barone. Flc, was best
man.
For going away the bride
wore a navy dress and coat,
fuschia accessories and an or
chid corsage.
The bride is a graduate of
(he Silverton school and Mt.
Angel Teachers' college. She is
a member of the Jennings Lodge
school faculty having taught
there last year. The bridegroom
attended Mt. Angel college for
two years and is now station
ed at Astoria.
