Lavinia groaned inwardly.
"Two hours." It teemed like an
'fciternity. But ehe gritted her
teth, figuratively, and picked
HP her cardi. She went at it with

pretty bad.
And she knew then that i the

eternity to her, it must seem like
perfect cons to Mr, and Mrs.
Masters, It was an experience
he would never forget and
' one which Mr. and Mrs. Masters
would probably look back upon
. In sheer agony.
Then, out of the darkness of
the fearful experience, came a
.voice. It announced that the
bridge playing period was at an
t.nd, and the scores from the
, tables would be gathered up and
llgured.
"I needn't ask what table got
ithe lowest score," said Mrs.
.Masters with poorly concealed
bitterness.
, . Lavinia felt like something
r.ainking Into a dark hole and she
almost fell upon Margol's neck

"Come on, Miss Prentiss," she

of the young men now that

She said good-bye to the others,

She wanted to scream, she want

But there was no time for any

He came forward, knowing full

"May I?" he said, smiling at
Lavinia.
"Why, of course!" asitl La

She moved off with her new
