William 8. Knudsen, chief of production for the war de partment, aald here today, "Then art many Joba that women are doing and doing exceptionally well," he aald, "Of course they can't do the heavy work. But in such things as making small parts, assembling electrical apparatus and many other Joba they are making a fine record. "1 remember seeing one woman in an airplane factory she only weighed 110 pounds standing up there on a wing, 30 feet In the air. She was an electrical inspector." General Knudsen arrived here last night In a newly designed trans port plane on a tour of war pro duction factories. He revealed he has Inspected 170 plants within the past 60 days. Ke found, he said, that America Is getting mad "and that is the only way to win the war." "There la nothing among the 30, 000 armament items that are need ed that Is not now in production," he added, "The spirit in the fac tories is splendid. They're saying things like this: "We turned out 50,000 this month now we've got to turn out 60,000 next month." Brig. Oen. K. B. Wolfe, army air corps, who is director of procure ment at Wright field, accompanied General Knudsen, He too voiced optimism over the production rate. They will go to Spokane tomorrow. Liberia is now the only independ ent nation of the African continent. Miss Scymanski Takes Position With Schools Sllverton Miss Ida Scymanski was selected by the Sllverton school board of directors of which H. B. Jorgenson Is chairman, and H, W. Adams, clerk, to serve as clerical and accountant assistant to Super intendent Adams. Miss Scymanski is replacing Miss Stella Dybevlk who resigned her position held for the past 16 years, to become associated with the office of Sales Manager H. W, Preston, of the Silver Falls Timber company sawmill.
