The local chapter retained 15 per cent or approximately $086. Eugene Manning, who has been confined to his bed for the past nine weeks suffering from heart complications, has returned to his home from Salem Deaconess hos pltal and Is reported as slowly lm proving. ' ' ' Mr. and Mrs. Ted Jelderks have sold their farm In Mission Bottom to Homer Davis and an auction sale was held Monday. The Jelderks family will make their home In Salem. Aaron Nusom is convalescing at his home from an attack of pneu- monla, he spent four weeks at the Salem Deaconess' hospital. - ' Mr, and Mrs. Walter Nuson of Clatskanie have ' returned' ' from Kansas City, Mo., where Nusom won high honors at a national live pigeon shoot. Mr. and Mrs. Nu- som visited over the week-end at the Aaron Nusom home here. A. L. Collins has sold his farm In the Eldridge district and will move soon. . ' Justin Joyce who recently Joined the navy was called to Seattle Mon day and will be sent from there to Providence, R. I. Michael Mahoney, rural mall car rier and reserve officer' of the army, left Monday for Georgia where he will enter army school for - three months. Mrs. Henry C. J. B. Woods, of the state forestry depart ment, talked on types of fires and the general methods of fighting fires, with special emphasis on ru ral fire hazards. Fires In the Silver Falls region should be reported to Fire War den Harley Scott, whose telephone Is from Stayton. Other fires should be reported to George Burke at Molalla. Chairmen from the various dis tricts who reported were J, O. Darby, Victor Polntj Alvin Krug, Brush Creek; Silas Torvand, Bethany; Jas per King, Central Howell; Oscar Loe, Evens Valley; Lewis Hall, Da vis; Anton Sacher, Mt. Roy Davenport, chief of the po lice reserves requested a committee from rural patrol to meet with the police reserves to better coordinate the work of the two groups. Golden Anniversary Observed by Lodge Dallas The fiftieth anniversary of Almlra Rebekah lodge was cel ebrated Tuesday evening at a reg ular meeting. . Large baskets of spring flowers, two gold bells and vases were decorative about the assembly room for the occasion Mrs. T. B. Hooker, noble grand, presided during the business ses sion. A renewal of obligation of mem bers was held during a candle cer emony around the altar. During the program a double quartet from the Junior high school sang two musical numbers. Miss Betty Stan sang "When Children Pray" and "American Lullaby" accompanied by Miss Margaret Morgan. Mrs. C. B. Teats gave a paper on the early history of the order. During a pleasant refreshment hour eighteen members whose birthdays were In January, Febru ary and March were seated at a long table. Mixed bouquets of daf fodils and forsythla In gold vases formed an attractive centerpiece on the table. Committees In cltargo were- Mrs. Mary Starr, Mrs. A. T. Hildebrand, Mrs. Charles Cochrane and C. W. Henkle, program; Mr. and Mrs. J. Paul Bollman, Mrs. Charles Graham of Salem, Mrs. Vincent Jones, Mrs. Ralph Howe and Mrs. Orville Malm, refreshments; Mrs. John Cerny, Mrs. J. R. Allgood and Mrs. Miriam Murray, decorations. Waits New Oorders Dallas Josiah Wills, county school superintendent, has received a let ter from the state school superln tendent, Rax Putnam, stating that the sugar rationing would be post poned until further notice and that all material necessary for sugar ra tioning in the hands of all officers should be retained where it is at the present time until further no tice. Shipped to Portland Dallas The Dallas depot, of the Polk county defense council has col lected - and shipped lOYt tons of waste paper, according to J. C. El lis, ' volunteer worker - who Is In charge of receiving the paper at the Gail hotel annex. The waste Is sent to Portland where It Is converted Into material for the manufacture of packing cartons, The depot has been collecting old newspapers and magazines, packing cartons and books. ' The shipment brought approximately $96 which is used for civilian defense, activities. Ellis has' come across a number of old books, some of which apparently were , published 80 years or so ago. Stockholders Dine . ' Mill City The annual dinner for the stockholders of the Mill City Manufacturing company is sched uled to be held at the Odd Fellows hall at 6:30 o'clock Saturday eve ning. A program Is being arranged for the occasion, to follow the ban quet. It was decided to have an Easter party on April 3. Guests were Mrs. Glenn Edwards and Miss Rhea Jamison. Dallas Legion Post Holds Crab Feed Dallas -f Carl B. Fenton Post, American Legion, met Thursday night with Ed. G, Hlmes, post com mander, In the chair. Adjutant and Post Membership Chairman Fred Stlnette reported a member ship of ,102, four more than quota and the highest membership mark reached by the post since 1932. Following the meeting which was largely attended the members en Joyed the annual crab feed In the mess room of the armory. Visitors for the evening included Jerrold Owen of Salem. A feature of the first meeting in April according to Post Commander Hlmes will be the Initiation of a number of new members.
