Journal, Salem,' Oregon Tuesday, October 21, 1941 Meeting Here Tonight to Talk Contracts Defense contract problems will be discussed at a mcetipg of Salem firms that handle, or are capable of handling contracts of that kind to be held at the Chamber of Com merce tonight, beginning at o'clock. Lee U. Eyerly of the Eyerly Air craft corporation, who arranged for the meeting, said the discussion is open to all, persons interested in se curing defense contracts of any kind. The meeting is a follow up of conference held at the statehouse last week by Salem manufacturers and machine shop operators on In vitation of the Oregon economic council. At tonight's meeting R. B. Turner of Portland, who represents the federal office of production man agement, will talk on problems of defense contracts. He Is expected to give an outline of new govern ment plans for spreading defense work to make use of idle machine capacity and furnish employment in areas where the defense priority system has reduced normal pro-duction. Also participating will be W. H, Balllie, manager of the Salem of fice of the state employment ser vice, and W. H. Crawford, executive secretary of the Oregon economic council. Legion Will Attend Church Members of Capital Post No, American Legion, last night accept' ed tile invitation of Rev. J. C. Har rison to attend church services Armistice Sunday, November 9, at the First Methodist church. Observance of Armistice day in general is under the direction of the Federated Patriotic Societies of the city with Capital Post cooper ating. Stores will be closed during the day with the parade and pro gram starting at 10 o'clock. Final selection of a speaker has not been made. Following the parade the post will dedicate its new flag pole at the American Legion home and Join with the auxiliary for a din ner at noon. A dance, the only revenue feature of the day, will be held at Crystal Gardens as usual. Don Madison, who had Just re turned from a moose hunting ex pedition in the Fraser river coun try in Canada, told of shooting one of the big animals. Paul Bloch, who has been in the Veterans' hos pital for several months following an automobllo accident in northern California, was able to attend the meeting. Announcement was made that the Stayton post would be host for tile Marlon county council Friday, November 21, at which time officers will be elected. Coast Weather Warm Unionvale Mr. and Mrs. Orval Stoutenburg of near Logsden spent the week-end with their parents and other relatives and friends here where they resided until the last of March. There is an all local talent cast for this hilarious laugh riot1 under the direction of Miss Gene Ben nett. The players In order of ap pearance are, Bert Crary as Mr Klsster, sole owner of the Kant-Kum-Off-Klssable Lipstick Co., and his factory Is located in Salem. His wife is ashamed of him, but he Is Mr. Average American. Dan Schulze portrays Perkins the Kissler butler, and what a butler! He had a brother once who, "If you don't mind by saying so, sir, was quite a Beau Brummell.'1 Mrs. Walter Young as Mrs. Kiss ler, ably plays the part of a social climber whose whole life revolves around making the right Impression on the "right" people. Rhody Baker takes the part of Annie the Kissler maid who is a good soul but a little slow on the uptake. Rose Ann Gibson, as the In genu lead, Betty Kissler, is just home from finishing school and has very definite ideas about whom she wants to marry. Bill Dyer does a splendid char acterization of Pierre Gaston, a phony Frenchman who spends most of his time kissing women's hands and flattering them. It's hard for him to get T. J.'s attention but the women all adore him. . Scotty Barclay as John Arthur runs the Arthurs Advertising Agency and has been handling the advertis ing for Mr. Kissler. He's in love with Betty but Betty has higher ambi tions and Is sure that Pierre is the man for her. Beth DeLapp portrays Rita Phil lips, an attractive widow and nei ghbor of the Klsslers who isn't above making eyes at any attractive man. Delva Leabengood acquires a lisp to act as Patsy Miller, another nei ghbor and Is thrilled when she things John is in love with her. And last but by no means least is Don Fields as Gus Nelson, a theatrical agent, who admits that he is the best in the business. There's plenty of comedy in "Swing Out." Music, choruses, and specialties all add to the success of the story and make it the fast est moving, funniest, comedy you've seen in many a day. You will laugh as Patsy pursues John almost to the , point of exhaustion; you will howl as Pierre and Gus learn to mani pulate a ventriloquist's dummy: you'll shriek as Rita tries to tell John how to win a girl. It's a laugh riot from start to finish. D River Bridge Will be Rebuilt The DcLake bridge over the D river, washed out Saturday by high tides, will be rebuilt immediately, the state highway commission said today. The broken bridge was 180 tret long and of wood construction. The new bridge will be similar. Traffic on the coast highway now is being detoured in that area.
