Miss Eileen Stanton took a forced
10-day vacation from her Salem
work and was at her Silverton home
with a case of the flu.
The Rt. Rev. H. L. Toss, Mrs.
Foss and their daughter, Patsy, of
Seattle, were weekend house guests
of Mrs. Christine Jacobson here,
and attended several functions at
the Trinity Lutheran church where
Rev. Foss was former pastor.
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Gay spent
Sunday at the Alsea home of Gay's
cousins, Mr. and Mrs. M. Harden,
and children. Miss Bernice Gay,
daughter of the S. A. Gays, was a
Junior weekend house guest of Miss
Irene Hansen of Htllsboro, at Cor
vallls, where Miss Hansen Is a stu-1
dent of the Oregon State college.

Rebekah lodge drove to Corvallls
today to attend the first of the
three-day state convention being j
held there this week.
Mrs. Ed G. Morrison and her
daughter, Mrs. Max Scriber, are
spending the day, today, In Salem,
where Mrs. Morrison Is submitting
to medical treatment.

Silverton, have purchased a service
station and taken possession at 17th
and Market streets, Salem, The
Gaffeys have resided in Salem for

More School Doors
Close for Vacation
Lyons The Lyons school closed
Friday. A picnic was held on the
school grounds Thursday for the
pupils and their parents. Mrs. Lula
Burt and Miss Lucille Wright left
for their homes in Portland the first
of the week. They were both re
elected to teach In the Lyons school
next year.
The McCulley Mountain school
closed last week with a picnic held
at the school house Wednesday. Th
Weasel Plat school Joined them for
a ball game in the afternoon. Mrs.
Mary Lovett will teach the McCulley
Mountain school again next year.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Hallin, Miss
Genevieve Hallin and Charles Hal
lin spent the week end visiting at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Hallin in North Bend.
Mrs. Leon Smith and daughter.
Shirley, went to Pendleton Friday
where they will spend two weeks
at the home of Mrs. Smith's par
