A variety of hurry-up meals will be enjoyed by every member of the family. While asparagus is at Its peak on the market try Asparagus with Cheese Ac Mushroom Sauce, a meal-In-one-dlsh, quickly and easily pre pared and inexpensive. It's served on buttered toast so all you will need to complete the meal Is a salad, bev erage and dessert. Select tender green asparagus of medium thickness. Spindling stalks are usually tough and thick ones are usually woody. Trim stalks to uniform length and tie in small bunches for Individual servings. Ty lng the asparagus in bunches pre vents breaking during cooking and makes serving a simple matter. The creamy cheese sauce with mushrooms is perfectly delicious and may be served with many other kinds of vegetables. The mushrooms may be omitted from the sauce if preferred and sliced stuffed olives may be substituted. Saute mush rooms in tho butter for about 5 min utes: blend In flour, add milk and cook until sauce thickens. Add cheese snd seasonings and stir until cheese is melted, place drained cooked as paragus on buttered toant and pour hot cheese and mushroom sauce over each serving of asparagus. Sweet Potato Sails Delicious 2 cups meshed tweet potatoes 3 tablespoons butter V teaspoon salt V4 teaspoon paprika 't teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup ready-cooked cereal (pack aed) 4 slices pineapple 8 tablespoons bacon fat, melted Mix together the potatoes, but ter and seasonings and cinnamon Shape Into alx balls. Roll In the cereal and top each pineapple slice spread with bacon :at. Place In a shallow baking dish and bake 19 minutes in a moderate oven. There's nothing dramatic or romantic about Josephine Dil lon's appearance, no attempt to look younger. She dresses sim ply, speaks in a gentle, cultured voice. Modest about herself, she has only kind words for her for mer husband. He - has worked hard and deserves his success, she says. Tills winter Miss Dillon is taking over a new Job teaching dramatics to the girls at Chris tian College, Columbia, Mo. Hie course will not be geared to wards producing professional actresses. She hopes to steer those who want careers into dearth of college trained drama teaching. There Is really a tics teachers, she believes. Look at Your Windows To be sure of fresh, crisp, lasting daintiness at windows wash the curtains often. They should be washed when they need washing not by the calendar. It is not ground in, as In collars and cuffs, nor does it contain perspira tion. But quantities of soot and dust, and sometimes rust from screens, may be present. Very often they con tain acids which materially affect the color and strength of the fabrics. Soiled curtains not only will make the house look shabby, they also will soon wear out from the dirt and the hart rubbing necessary to remove it. If there's any doubt, hold several folds of the fabric together and Judge for yourself how soiled your curtains are. Shake out the loose soli before Filled Coffee Bread Superb 9 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder cup granulated sugar ik teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons fat 1 egg H cup milk (about) Mix together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Cut in the fat. Add beaten egg, and enoujrh milk to make soft dough. Place It upon floured board and divide into two parts. Roll or pat out each until U Inch thick. Carefully transfer one piece to greased round cake pan. Generously spread with filling and cover with the other dough. Sprin kle with filling. Bake In mod erate oven. Cut In wedges. Filling 1 cup dark brown sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 8 tablespoons flour 6 tablespoons butter H cup raisins foptlonall K teaspoon grated orange rind Mix the Ingredients until "crumbly." putting them Into the washer. For plain white cotton, dotted swtss, or linen curtains, use hot water. For silk or rayon curtains, cotton laces, nets, and fine sheers, and colored curtains In any fabric, keep wash and rinse waters evenly lukewarm. Work up a good two-Inch suds before you drop the curtains Into your washer. If they are extra-soiled put them through a second sudsy water. Rinse several times In clean wa ter. Dry on a stretcher or by hang ing on the line. Sash curtains may be hung at the windows after wash ing and dried smooth by drawing a curtain rod through the hem. Very thin cotton and linen curtains look best lightly starched. The household ironer, of course, Is the perfect way to give any curtains their finishing touches before they beautify your windows once again. Apricot Upside Down Dessert cup brown sugar 4 tablespoons butter 1 cup apricots 14 cups flour 3 teaspoons baking powder teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons fat Vj cup milk Let the sugar, butter and apricots simmer together in a frying pan until blended. Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in the fat and add the milk. Pour the soft dough over the apricot mix ture. Bake (In the frying pan) in a moderate oven for 20 minutes. Turn out, apricot side up. Vegetable Broth 14 cup diced carrots ii cup diced celery 14 cup chopped onions 1 cup tomatoes 3 cups water u teaspoon paprika a tablespoons butter rnver and let simmer for 23 mtn- ittM. the vegetables, salt and wa ter.
