The sum of $2,000 Is to be raised by popular subscription before further plans are devised and the parsonage home Is not to ex ceed $6,000 in cost. On the parsonage building board are L. H. Meyer, Jalmer Refsland and Lawrence M. Larson. West Salem Grange Obligates Couple West Salem The West Salem grange met in the city hall for a Covered dish dinner. After dinner the new master, Theo. Burns, called the meeting to order. The third and fourth obligations were given to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Seygan. January birthdays were Arthur Brown, William Moss, Layton Dash lell, Mrs Merl Phillips, Mrs. Robert Pattison, Mrs. Lela Kuhn, and Mrs. Theo. Bums. The H.E.C. held a benefit card party Friday night. The H.E.C. met at the home of Mrs. N. C. O'Brien Wednesday for an all-day quilting. Stelnbock's "Gropes of Wrath" Is still most in demand on the fiction shelves, with Godden's "Black Nar cissus" and de Donato's "Christ In Concrete" running not far behind Nineteen new books have been purchased during December and 22 received as gifts. Jenson, pas tor of Immanuel Lutheran church, based the theme of his annual address to the members of his cong- i elation on the text from Matt. 5:14-16, with his topic, "Let Your Licht Shine," just preceding the noon hour of the all-day meeting Wednesday in the church. The wom en of the Guild were in charge of the noon dinner with Mrs. Henry Aim, Miss Bertha Loe, Mrs. O. G. Ellerton. Mrs. George Anderson and Mrs. A Aarhus as hostesses. The pastor's report revealed 45 sermons preached in the English anguage; twenty-three Norwegian services and conducting a Norweg ian Bible class each Sunday; two periods of evangelism which were in charge of guest ministers, Rev. M. L. Nesvig, city missionary of Seattle, and Rev. and Mrs. O. P. Stavaas, missionaries from Mada gascar. The pastor conducted 20 afternoon mid-week services in the Norwegian language. Two hundred communed at eight services. There were 16 admitted to the church by baptism. A class of 13 was confirm ed. Eight funerals and three mar riages were reported. The time of the annual meeting was changed from the day until the evening thus giving those of the congregation who are employed, the opportunity of having a part m the meeting. Mikesell, county club leader. The projects Include cookery, slothing, home-making, fores try, woodworking, livestock, health and art. The club agent is recom mending that additional clubs In cookery, clothing, home making, forestry, woodwork ing and art be organized at an early date so that work may be completed by May 15. Monmouth Sees New Building Monmouth Building permits and repair permits totaling $12,000 were issued in Monmouth the past year, an announcement from the city re cording office indicated. This includes the Dr. J. P. Santee modern five room dwelling in South Cottage street; a four room cottage at the Mrs. Prank Robinson poultry plant at North East street; Mon mouth cooperative warehouse re modeling, $1000; J. E. Rabe dwell ing in Bentley street, remodeling $1,000; Van Crlder store, remodeling and new front; Ed Sehorn, dwelling remodeling; L. A. Moore, dwelling remodeling; P. H. Johnson, apart ment house remodeling; Mrs. Jessie Nowowiejski furniture store remodel ing, and a number of small improve ments added to a number of homes. One building permit tills year is for a new six room, story and a half house erected by Frank Moore at the corner of Ackerman and Whitman streets. The structure will face Ac kerman street. Forum Selects New Directors For Woodburn Woodburn Don Grilley, John Ramage and Henry Miller were elected as directors of the Wood burn Chamber of Commerce to serve for a term of three years at the annual meeting held Thursday night in the Legion rooms at the city hall. J. Melvin Ringo was elected for two years to serve the unexpired tenn of T. J. O'Connor. Directors holding over are J. P. Lacey, Fred Hccker, H. M. Austin, Gerald B. Smith and Winton Hunt. A meet ing of the directors will be held within the week to elect new offi cers. The annual report was read by Secretary Winton Hunt, showing receipts and disbursements of $410.4U and no cash on hand. J. F. Lacey, the retiring presi dent, made a short talk, urging the budget plan of operation and the employment of a part time paid secretary. R. H. Kipp, secretary of the Wil lamette valley project committee, was the speaker of the evening ani talked on flood control. Musical entertainment was offered by the "Soph is toe rats," Nik Wayne and Verne Hanson of Hnlsboro. Dinner was served at 6:30 oclock by the American Legion auxiliary with covers for about 70. Church Sisterhood Meet Perrydale The Sisterhood of the Perrydale Christian church met at the home of w. H. McKee Thurs day afternoon. A business meeting was held. Conner. n1" Officers Are Kept By Phone Patrons Stayton At the annual meeting of the Stayton Mutual Telephone company all officers were re-elected as follows: president, H. J. Rowe; vioe -president, C. P. Burmester ; secretary-treasurer, E. D. Alexan der; directors, E. C. Downing and Grant Murphy. Murphy was chosen to represent the company in the Switchboard association. The treas urer reported the finances of the company in good condition.
