Initiation Ceremonies Monday Night Initiation ceremonies of the Am erican Legion auxiliary were held Monday evening in the Fraternal temple with Mrs. Earl Andresen acting as Installing officer and Mrs. Beryl Porter as sergeant-at-arms. Past presidents of the auxi liary assisted. Those Initiated were Mrs. A. W. Lovclk, Mrs. Kenneth Murdock, Mrs. H. R. Robertson, Mrs. Lloyd Demarest, Mrs. B. W. Ransdell, Mrs. Freda Stacey, Mrs. Loran King, Mrs. Guy Weaver, Mrs. John A. Pentney, Mrs. John W. Nash, Mrs Virgil Bolton, Mrs. Cyril Nadon, Mrs. Clara Reeves, Mrs. Philip Shobar, Mrs .T. A. McLeod, Mrs. James Hartley, Mrs. Harley Sperry, Mrs. James Garson and Mrs. H. C. Beard. At the close of ceremonies Mrs. Robert Wyatt sang several num bers, accompanied by Mrs. Ivan Brown. The hostess, Mrs. Jennie Bartlett, Introduced Mrs. Johns Mrs. Minnie Jenks and Mrs. Sam Yoder, guests. After the Initiation the new members and the auxili ary enjoyed a social hour. Mrs. John A. Olson and her committee were in charge of the refreshments. A study club is being organized under the leadership of Mrs. Frank Marshall to study the history of Oregon. Mrs. Marshall announced the first meeting will be held No vember 29 In the museum in Wal ler Hall. At Oils meeting Prof. Herman Clark of the Willamette university faculty will be the speak er. All interested members are urg ed to attend. Phi Beta Kappas Celebrate Founding The Willamette Valley association of Phi Beta Kappa Is arranging a program to commemorate the founding of the national honorary scholastic society at William and Mary college on December 5, 1776. To make final arrangements for this occasion the following met with Dr. Bruce Baxter In his office: Rob inson Spencer, Dean Olive Dahl, Mrs. R. G. Doege, Mrs. C. A. Rad cliff and Dr. Chester Luther. Plans include a formal evening program on Tuesday, December 5, at 8 o'clock in Lausanne hall on the Willamette campus at which Prof. Harold G. Merriam, literary scholar and visiting professor at the Uni versity of Oregon, will be the speak er. All members of Phi Beta Kap pa in this vicinity are cordially in vited. .. Mrs. Jennie F. B. Jones Feted on Birthday The Past Presidents' club of the Woman's Relief Corps entertained with a luncheon at Frederickson's Saturday honoring Mrs. Jennie F. B Jones on her 79th birthday anni versary. The luncheon table was centered with an arrangement of yellow chrysanthemums and tall ta- pers. Mrs. Eva Martin Is president of the club and Mrs. Effle W. Dun lap served as toastmlstress. Mrs. Helen Southwick asked the blessing and Mrs. Ronald Glover gave a read ing. Mrs. Jones, who cut the birth day cake, was presented with a cor sage by Mrs. Dunlap. Present were Mrs. Jennie F. B. First Families Plan Thanksgiving Dinners Hospitable Salem couples and those of Oregon's official family are planning dinners for Thanksgiving day in their homes for members of their families and intimate friends. The college contingent will arrive In town Wednesday to visit until Sunday and parties galore will make the week-end gay. Governor and Mrs. Charles A. Sprague will entertain at dinner in their North 14th street residence on Thanksgiving day for Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Schramm, Miss Suzanne Schramm, Miss Patricia Schramm, Philip Schramm, all of Corvallis, and Wallace Sprague. Secretary of State Earl Snell and Mrs. Snell have invited guests to dinner at their Fairmount hill place Thursday Including Dr. and Mrs Frederick Thompson of The Dalles, Mr. and Mrs. George Flagg and Bill Snell, who will arrive home from the University of Oregon Wednesday. Miss Frances Anne Mott is ar riving in town Wednesday to spend the holidays with her parents. Con gressman James Mott and Mrs, Mott, at the Royal Court. Coming with her will be two Kappa Alpha Theta sorority sisters, the Misses Florence Gordon and Miss Marga ret Watts. Judge and Mrs. John L. Rand will spend Thanksgiving In Portland as guests of the Irving Rands. Miss Edith Wheeler will accompany them. Mrs. Homer Goulet Honored Guest Mrs. Homer Goulet, Sr., was hon ored with a prettily arranged dinner Sunday honoring her birthday an niversary when Mr. and Mrs. Homer L. Mollie Bob Small Weds Wednesday On Wednesday afternoon will be solemnized the marriage of Miss Mollie Bob Small, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis H. Small of Eugene, to Hal C. Hardin, Jr. The ceremony will be at 4 o'clock at the First Con gregational church In Eugene, with Dr. Victor P. Morris of the Univers ity of Oregon officiating. Miss Edythe Farr is to attend the bride and Thomas Miles will be best man for Mr. Hardin, James Steven son and Edwin Waisenen will be ushers. Miss Kathleen Houghlum will play the organ music. Following the service the couple will greet guests Informally at the church entrance. Buffet Supper Follows Rehearsal Weldon Walker and Gordon Wlems entertained members of the cast of "Listen to Leon," the Elks' forthcom ing Christmas show being present ed by the Salem Civic Players, and their friends with a buffet supper after rehearsal Monday evening at the home of Mr. Walker. Boise Home Scene of Gathering St. Anne's Guild of St. Paul's Episcopal church met informally Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Breyman Boise with Mrs. Boise. Skating Party Event of Friday A gala skating party was held at the Mellow Moon Friday evening with students of the Capital Busi ness college acting as hosts. Over 76 enjoyed the affair. The program committee consisted of Miss Paula Trommlltz, chairman, Bill Clearwater, Sara Hollowell, Lynne Damielle, Bernice BUhler and Maybelle Frazer. The refreshment committee was headed by Mrs. Esther Easton. Her committee Included Miss Maxlne Moses, Carolyn Winter, Marian Mc- Pherren and Herman Lindeman. ... John S. Ediger to Wed Miss Tenner Invitations are being received to the wedding of Miss Elizabeth Tenner of Henderson, Nebraska, and John S. Ediger of Dallas. The ceremony will be an event of ITianksgiving eve in Henderson and the couple will be "at home" in Dal las after December 1. O. W. S. of J., Monday evening, the members enjoyed an unusually interesting program. Many corn stalks and pumpkins were grouped about the room while centering the long serving table was a huge pump kin topped with clusters of grapes and surrounded by a variety of fruit. Two large artificial turkeys made by the worthy high priestess. Miss Ila Austin, graced the table. Mrs. Walter Lansing and Miss Verna Kepplnger won special prizes. Mrs. Wayne Henry was the winner in the old-fashioned spelling bee and C. R. Rntcllff was also hon ored for spelling. Miss Grace Bab cock received honorable mention. Mrs. Mary Addle Curtis pleased the members with a reading. A grand opera selection was given by Mrs. Percy R. Kelly. Prizes were given to Wayne Henry and Arthur H. Moore. T. Barnes at luncheon In their North Capitol street place. The Chaplns were married in Lon don, England, last July 1st and spent the summer In Scotland, the bride's home. Mrs. Chapin Is the former Lillian Macpherson. They arrived In the states a fortnight ago and are now en route to Palo Alto, where Dr. Chapin Is a member of the Leland Stanford faculty. Dr. Chapin is a graduate of Wil lamette university and has a vide circle of friends here. He took grad uate work at Stanford and later went to China, where he taught In a university. He received his Ph. D, from the University of Edinburgh.
