Tuesday, November 21, 1939 Two Exclusive News Dispatches By Special CorresponflcnTs Christian Endeavorers Hold Convention at Lebanon Greafer Willamette Valley News Two Counties Send Delegates, Name Officers Lebanon The annunl convention of the Willamette Christian En deavor union, held at the Lebanon Church of Christ over the weekend, was attended by approximately 100 delegates from Christian, Evangeli cal, United Presbyterian and Pres byterian churches of Linn and Ben ton counties. The following were named new officers In the business session held Saturday afternoon: Carl Loron, Lebanon, president; Ladd Howard, Albany, vice-president; Viola Wil liams, Orleans, secretary, and Ar lene Sportsman, Sweet Home, treas urer. The invitation of Sweet Home to hold the next convention there was accepted. - Rev. Walter Fiscus, of Northwest Christian college In Eugene, was guest speaker, and he gave talks Saturday afternoon and evening and on Sunday evening. The theme of the parley was "Christ Calls". A feature of the conference was a program of music and talks given by six students of the Eugene col lege at the banquet Saturday evening. Honor Ron Pupils Lebanon Fifty-three students of Lebanon high school received grades for the past nine weeks that were high enough to place their names on the roll of honor recently issued Such honor implies that the student has received grades of either 1 or 2. Mill Man Killed Lebanon Sam Sawyer, owner of the Sawyer mill near Holley, was killed when he was crushed under a log which rolled upon him yester day morning. Fairfield Stages Annual Homecoming Fairfield The Fairfield Farmers' Union held homecoming which con sisted of a no-host supper, program and regular meeting. Liberty SUtf Woman Fined in Stayton Court Stayton Mrs. A. A. Curtis o: Aumsville appeared before Justice of the Peace Walter Bell In Stay ton Thursday and pleaded guilty to a petit larceny charge and was fined $25 and costs. She was arrested at the J. L. Jordan produce company. After several packages of meat that had been prepared for the cold storage lockers were missed several marked packages were planted which later appeared In her locker. Sheridan PTA President Kept Sheridan The Parent-Teacher organization held its monthy meet ing in the high school auditorium Mrs. George W. Censky, who was president last year, again accepted the presidency upon the resigna tion of Mrs. C. E. Morgan and pre sided during the business session. Mrs. Floyd Matthews, secretary, was present. Principal Hulce of the grade school reported on the meth od used and the finances concern ing the present serving of hot lunches to the grade school pupils. Ten dollars were voted by the or ganization toward the hot lunch fund for this month. Mrs. John Hendricks, chairman of the finance committee, reported that an "amateur hour" was plan ned to help on finances. Mr. Mor rlsscy, treasurer, reported that the cook books put out last year were still not all sold and were avail able. O. Beach Patton reported for the vocational guidance committee the progress made in the contem plated purchase of vocation leaf lets for the library. Mrs. Roy O. Malo reported plans for an Ameri canization meeting In the near fu ture. Mr. Harris of the grade school, chairman of the program commit tee, announced the grade school op eretta for December 1 and Intro duced two members of the cast, Llla Lee Morris and June Syron, who sang numbers from the production E. J. Pedgron of the fourth grade delighted the audience with two accordlan numbers. The girls glee club of the high school sang two numbers. Miss Helen Knight led the audience In a community sing with "Over the Rainbow", Wayne Faulconer being at the piano. The program was followed by a pie social. Dr. Goodall being auc tioneer. Pie was then sold by the piece In the Home Economic de partment, with free coffee. Mrs. Hendricks had charge of the re freshments). A December meeting will be held In the grade school auditoruim. Fruitland Pupils Guests for Dinner Fruitland Mr. and Mrs. T. Nes- bitt and son Buddy of Eugene were guests of Mrs. Nesbitt's parents, Mr and Mrs. J. G. Stewart, over the weekend. The pupils of the Fruitland school will hold a Thanksgiving dinner at the school house Wednesday noon Dinner will be served Just for the school children by their teacher Ervan Branch. A vio lin ensemble, Sarabande by Auer. was featured by several girls, and the Aeollans offered "The Rosary" by Nevln; "Stars with Little Golden Sandals." by Berwald; "Pop Goes the Weasel." by Schaeffer; "In the Heart of the Hills" and "The Two Clocks." Stage property was furnished through the courtesy of P. N. Smith of Mt. Angel. Pies Prove Popular Independence Several members of the Chamber of Commerce, ac companied by their families, at tended the pie social at Pedee Fri day nieht and walked off with sev eral of the best pies. He is from the east where he has had former experience in crying sales. Angel Members of the home relation class, tnught by Miss Liul- mllla Seidl, heard a talk on the planning and building of a house by Lee Withers, building and sup ply dealer In Mt. Angel and Wood burn. The speaker told the students that the Cape Cod style house is the one most preferred by the Northwestern home builders. The modernistic trend is gaining favor. Among the phases of building covered by Withers was the select ing of the best time economically In which to build, the choosing of a site, consulting of the architect, contractor and retail lumberman. The program Included the follow ing numbers: Girls' chorus, directed by Miss Helen Lotz, "My Reverie," and "Lovely Night" by lone Ander son, Fern Dyer, Pauline Phares, Shirley Seely, Vivian Haas and Eula Fern Matthews, accompanied by Millicent Evenden; solo, "Gold Mine in the Sky," by Kenneth Stenger. accompanied by Thelma Asper; F. F. Fall Festival Proves Success Woodburn The annual Harvest festival and bazaar given by St. Luke's parist at the parish hall Sun day was a grand success both social ly and financially. A turkey dinner, prepared by the women of the Altar society, was served to approximately 600 people and the amusements of the day were under the direction of the men of the HoW Name society. A number of valuable prizes, do nated by the merchants of Wood burn, were given nway in the eve ning.
