of Salem, will cost somewhere between 25.95 and f 65 each,
and the terms of purchase will be as liberal as could be expect
ed. And It will b found, that while '

At the city council meeting Mon
day night proposal not bids were
received from six companies. They
had been Invited by resolution of the
council. But, while) th council haa
authorised Itself by another resolu
tion to install parking metere, It la
not yet certain that they will be aet
Up in thla town, for there la atrong
opposition from rather formidable
quart re. So the proposal were
merely referred to the apeclal traffic
committee for atudy.
Here are the proposals:
From the Paclflo Parking Meter
corporation of 8an Francisco Thla
company offers a meter manufac
tured by M. H. Rhodes, Inc, and Its
trade name le "Mark-Time." The
leaat expensive of seven models of
fered la 125.99 per meter, and the
most expensive 159.
Must Enforo Ordinance
The company offers to give the
city a trial of not leea than six
months. During thla time the me
ter ordinances must be enforced
strictly, and the olty make regular
collections from the meters, de
positing the money 'In a special
bank account or In escrow. Out of
the collections 39 per cent woujd be
paid to the city and 19 per cent to
M- H. Rhodes. Inc.
At the conclusion of the six
months the city would hare the fol
lowing option: .
(a) To request the removal of
the meters and poata, and restora
tion of sidewalk, to 1 satisfactory
condition. This would be done, un.
der bond if required, by the Pacific
Parking Meter corporation, at no
expense to' the city. When the city
had ordered removal of the meters
their entire obligation would cease
and such gums ss had been paid to
the city during the trial period
would be retained by the city.
(b) To ' continue the metered
parking system, and to continue the
division of collections aa above out
lined until the full sums due for
each meter had been made to M. H.
Rhodes, Inc., the sums paid during
the trial period to be credited to
the clty'a account.
e) To i continue '. the metered
parking system and to purchase the
Mark-Time metera outright for
cash, at a discount of 10 per cent
on the then unpaid balance within
30 days from the conclusion of the
trial period, the sums already paid
to be credited to the olty.

H. Rhodes, Inc., would supply four
additional meter heads and one
self-mailing service git.

per cent to the city. If after alx
months the city decided to keep
them the balance may be paid out
of to per cent of receipts.

Inc, Portland The company of
fers a- meter made by the Veeder
Root Manufacturing company. The
price offered Is 948 each, delivered
and Installed, Installation to be
within 46 days after receipt of the
order,
If desired by the city, the com
pany offers to place the meters on
trial for alx months, during which
time 90 per cent of the collections
would go to the company and 90
per cent to the city. At the end of
the trial period, It the city desired
to retain the meters, the company
would be favorable to entering into
a purchasing contract on the 50-60
basis until the amount of the pur
chase price had been paid.
From the Duncan Meter corpora
tion, Chicago. Thla company's

ing meter. ' The price Is 965 each
plus the cost of installation. The
cost of Installation would be de
ducted from the first gross recelpta,
and salary or wages for mainte
nance, not over 929 a week, would

ten notice of 10 days, the company

would retain the 90 per cent of all
gross receipts, leu Installment and
maintenance costs up to the time
of removal.
Th city would be required to en
force all meter ordinances and put
the money In a special fund. The
metera would be guaranteed for a
year.

company would not be required to
account to the city for such mon

meters with Its own employes un,

would be deducted from the pur
chase price of each meter. If the
company Installed them It would
use a local contractor acceptable to
the city.
The company would furnish an
Installation superintendent and
train a man to eenriee th meter.
It would pay the salary of th serv
ice man for alx months from date
of Installation. If the city desired
to maintain the metera with one of
lis employee trained by the com
pany the company would allow a
deduction of 9190 per meter from
