Improved Control
Over Quick Heat Is
Feature of New Models
Quick-surging heat available as needed to convert any
kind of raw foods into delectable dishes for mealtime vies with
the remarkable reduction in the amount of current now re
quired for electrical cookery, as the outstanding feature of
the new 1939 electric ranges which go on display here tomor
row In the City-Wide Mechanical'
Refrigeration and Electric Appliance
Show.
Improvements and refinements In
the automatic controls to which
electrical cookery may be subjected
introduces colored lights, triple tim
ing devices, signal bells and other
work and money saving mechanisms
to reflect and harness the function
ing of the range for the housewife.
The development of beuer oven
design and insulation, and thicker
tops, will help greatly to finally rele
gate the hot and stuffy kitchens of
yesteryear to the oblivion toward
which they have been headed by a
cooking appliance that banishes
flame from the kitchen. In addition
to helping to make the kitchen a
bearable place In which to work,
these advances have added economy
to operation of the electric range.
The now traditional special cleanli
ness of the electric range continues.
Increasing Popularity
The rapidly growing popularity of
this major household appliance
which Is credited with having con
tributed most to emancipation of
womankind from kitchen slavery.
Is expected to receive great, impetus
from the Introduction of the new
models, for their lowered consump
tion of current and their enhanced
efficiency will make It possible for
the household to effect economies
which In time will compensate for
the original Investment required.
The new speed of operation with
which the 1939 ranges have been
endowed, may best be Illustrated
ST the report of one manufacturer
whose engineers say biscuits may be
produced within 8 minutes, start
ing with a cold oven. The econo
my of operation Is evidenced by
another manufacturer's report that
a complete meal may be produced
with no more electric current than
a penny or two will buy.
The new cooking speed of the
ranges Is a result of a combination
of Improvements starting primar
ily with the fact that wattage of
heat units has been increased and
the units in turn have been subject
ed to control by switches through
which ss many as five different
types of heat sre available at the
nick of a finger.
Reduce Preheating Time
An additional Important factor Is
the Improvement In oven design and
Insulation through which has been
brought about a reduction In the
time required for nre-heatlng.
Broiling, baking, roasting, thus sre
made more efficient and with the
addition of the timers, are made
almost automatic. Steady main
tenance of desired temperatures Is
assured by thermostatic controls.
Most of the new ranges are equip
ped with deep well cookers and
most of these In turn are equipped
with automatic timing and con
trol devices. The deep well cooker,
referred to under several different
names by different makers, is es
pecially appropriate in processing
vegetables and makes retention of
the full nutriment values possible.
The deep well cooker Is the device
which Is credited with an ability
to produce a complete meal for a
penny or two and It has the addi
tional virtue through Its automatic
controls of making It possible for
the housewife to put the Ingredients
of the meal Into the cooker set the
range, leave the bouse, and come
back at dinner time to find a com
pletely cooked meal ready to be
erved to the family.
In the kitchen, regardless of size,
there should be an outlet near the
Ink, one for the refrigerator, one
near the table or work space, one
'or the Iron and a special outlet for
he wall clock. I
