One of th- most unique of the pledge dances held last week was given by Jean Oilbertaon's sorority. Pi Beta Phi. Palms, balloons and silhouettes of hula dancers carried out the Hawaiian theme. Refresh ments consisted of fresh pineapple punch served in real cocoanut halves. Richard Batdorf and Gordon Krueger helped with the Theta Kappa Nu "Jitterbug" dance. Palms and colored lights helped to carry out the modern theme of the informal. The Oregon State lyceum season will open Monday night in the men's gymnasium with the appear ance o: Elizabeth Rethberg, sopra no, and Ezlo Ptnza, basso, two Metropolitan Opera star favorites. These concerts are sponsored by the college for Oregon Staters, and the enjoyment of the students Is evidenced by the large turnouts for the programs. An Inspection of the closets revealed all shoes missing. To top the list of Indignities the pledges sent a package addressed to the Chi O. pledge trainer to be unwrapped at dinner. The wrap ping drawn off revealed a huge fish a codfish frozen hard and full of fumes. Everyone promptly left the room following the unveil ing. Greek members were not slow to wreak vengeance on the pledges. Donald Wooden waa one of the Delta to be given an old fashioned mud bath on his return - from a night's prowling. Barbara Forest and Dorothy Klbbe were two Alpha Chla to receive a good tubbing and to be brought up before the presi dent of the house to drink a "mys terious" potion. Greek members. however, relented the next day and gave the pledges a special dinner with artificial flower corsages as special favors. In a clever blue outfit Shirley Cronemlller made a atriklng pic ture at the Sunday tea dance held at the Hotel Benton. These dances are held from 8 to 0 o'clock every Sunday evening. Art Clemens was nsmed to head the stage and properties committee for the annual Englneera' Bust, the high-light of the year for engineer ing students. Approximately 800 bust fans attended last year's par ty and a thousand are expected this year. A novel program of skits as well as the dance Is plan ned. Donald Wooden, along with his fraternity brothers, picked up his girl on an old horse drawn hay rack with a lantern for the light. Guests, dressed In overalls and print dresses, entered the dance by crawlli:g through a hay stack cov ering the door. With gunny sack ing coveting the celling, bales of hay for furniture and cornstalks and hay for decorations the dance carried out the rural theme. Members of the Smoke House gang can be recognized by their ill fitting coats and sweaters, baggy pants and sheepish grins aa most of the members were forced to send all of their clothes to the cleaners after the blaze. All Oregon 8tate students are planning for the rally and game to be held In Portland this coming week-end when Oregon State meets Washington State.
