College Capers Hope Chamberlln Oregon State College, Corvallls, Jan. 1 (Special) Fun-festlng at the Associated Women's collegiate car nival Friday night and dancing at the Freshmen class dance Saturday night are the main social features of the coming week-end. Much diver. si on from books In the form of bas ketball games, rally dances, lunch eons, teas and dinners have filled the week to the brim with good times. Outstanding among Salem stud ents' doings this week Is the appoint ment of Ralph Leedy, freshman be longing to .Phi Gamma Delta fra ternity, to attend Annapolis naval academy, . . Bud Mercer, also of the Fiji's, has been getting his name In the paper frequently for his work as co-chairman of the all-campus fash. Son show coming up In a weke. Seen at convo today was Phil Brownell, smiling at the speaker's jokes. . . Dorothy Butte Is wearing her hah m a becoming page-boy style. . . Ushering at the basketball games this week Is genial Don Coons, varsity football player. . . Sally McLellan and Anne Van Scoy of the Theta's were seen lately playing bridge before the opening of the basketball games. . . Oene Holl , stein. Phi Delt pledge, will be one of the collegiate models at the fash ion show -January 38. . . More ap plause was given by sports fans last week-end when Elwynn Mann per formed m tumbling stunts between the halves of the U. of O.-Oregon State game. Spending six weeks In the home management house Is Marjorle Mets ger, stationed at Kent house with five other home economics girls. . According to Marjorle, "It's fun." . Roy Richer of the ATO's Is not In frequently seen In Ell era, a favorite campus eating place. . . Helen Ruzlc, Chi Omega, now and then receives dedications from the SAEa on their serenades. . She was one of the guests at a chapter house fireside at the seml-fraternlty Friday night. Winston Williams and a PI Phi friend were among the tea dancers at Tumble Inn last Sunday. . Monmouth Brides Are Complimented Monmouth Mra. - James Rlddell, Jr.. who was Miss Elva Llndeman until her marriage a fortnight ago, was feted twice the past week. The Busy Bee club, at Its regular meet ing Wednesday, sponsored a mis cellaneous shower for the bride. Special guests bidden for the tea were Mrs. u N. Llndeman and Mrs. Charles Bowman. Mrs. Rlddell was again compU- men ted when the Misses Beverly Morlan, Lenore Jenson, Helen TU ton, Margaret Gentle, Connie Rld dell, Margery Moore and Virginia Craven shared hostess honors at the home of Mrs. David Rlddell at tea. During the afternoon Mrs. Rlddell was honored with a kitch en shower. Pouring during the tea hour were Mrs. James Rlddell, Sr., and Mrs. Clay Egleston. Mrs. Russell Sheeon (Enod Phelps), also a recent bride, was entertained with a miscellaneous shower arranged m her honor by Mrs. Roy Torguson, housemother of Cornelius hall, and student wom en of the hall. Mrs. Sheeon was directed to each hidden gift by poems read from favors placed at the plate of each suest Stayton Club Sponsors Benefit Btayton Mrs. W. N. Plntler and Hal Ouffel held the high scores at the close of the play Wednesday nlrht when members of the Wom en's club held the third In the Winter series of brld ,? benefits. The clubhouse was attractively, decorated with winter greenery. A late supper was served following we piay by the hostesses Mrs. Kenton Thompson, Mrs. John Fish er, Mrs. Floyd Fair and Mra. Pin tier. Mrs. Luke Hurd, Mrs. Wendell Weddle, Mra. Eugene Spaniel, Mr. and Mra V. D. Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. James Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Dave John, Mrs. John Flaher, Mra Kenton Thomp son, Mrs. Floyd Fair, Mlas Mary McMahon, Miss Clare Stewart and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Oeorge. Campus Chattel: Judith Wodaegt University- of Oregon. Eugene, Jan. 30 Who hunt at on tlma or another ritualised the Ideal career aa being that of th circus troupe? Realising that such aecret passions might exist In the mind of many a study-worn eo-d, the Associated Women Btudenta u d the circus theme for their annual stag party, Co-ed Capers, held in the women's gym last night But even the circus ooutdnt afford enough variety for so many girls so here is a collection of what we saw during the evening Ann Berni, a most fascinating gyp sy, munching on caramel apples; Ma belle Iilbum, representing i janitor just coming off duty, par taking of the pink lemonade; Betty Crtder, Eleanor Swift, Ruth Hill man, Marian Rultenberg, Prances Roth, all playing the roles of street urchins, as did all the members of Gamma Phi Beta. And speaking of the Gamma Phli, Eleanor Swift and Betty Crtder were Initiated last week, as was Betty Hamilton of Chi Omega and Ann Bern! of Alpha Phi. Sigma Chi Earl Maynard was never more silent than during his Initiation week. The boys wouldn't let him even pass a mere "hello" on the campus board walk. Riding seems to be the favorite gym activity as far as Salem coeds are concerned. Bernlece Eyerly, togged out In tan whipcords, black books and jacket, was waiting at the Co-op corner Wednesday afternoon with the rest of the class for seme means of transportation out to the fairgrounds. Thursday morning we met Betty Hamilton In brown boots and knick ers and rust corduroy jacket, and Prances Roth in similar attire but In black and wine. They were just going up the steps of the journalism "shack," a sheaf of class papers in hand, and were probably most de sirous for the class to draw to ft close. Basketball always proves fruitful to the columnist. At the Oregon Oregon State game here last Friday we saw Barbara Pierce, Phil Barrett. Just one of the sophs growing a prise beard lor the Sophomore wniskerino in the near future, Ver non Carkln and Margaret Johnson from Oregon State and Stuart Mel- son of Salem high. The following night we went over i Corvallls for the game and the dance, finding Ma belle Liilburn, Janet Robertson, Ralph Leedy, Ver non Carkin and Oene Holsteln. Freshman Betty Hamilton is quite the picture girl these days. Rating a picture In the campus daily two days m a row isn't bad for a first- year student, or even a senior for that matter. Wednesday Betty's pic ture showed her sound asleep in tlte Horary, her head pillowed on her arms, altogether oblivious to the din of shuffling feet and the drop ping of books by the other fellow students and dozers. Thursday morning the woman's page was topped with a picture of Betty and three other coeds all wrapped up in cellophane raincoats. The greatest event of this week is the annual press conference, es pecially to the minds of the jour nalism students who wont have to attend classes In the shack but can listen in on the confabs of the jour nalists of the day. Harry N. Craln, managing editor of the Capital Journal, is scheduled to speak. High lights of the week-end will be the 1 tea given by members of the wom en's journalism honorary, and the banquet Friday night at the Osbura hotel. CALVARY BAPTIST Perm and B mgn sts.
