Salem Man And Roseburg Girl Wedded At a beautiful wedding solem nized at 8 o'clock last Saturday evening In the Kappa Kappa Cam ma sorority house In Corvallis, M1&& Walda Harding, daughter of R. R Harding of Roseburg, became the bride of Thomas B. Massey of Sa lem, son of Dr. and Mrs. George A. Massey of Klamath Falls. Dr. E. W. Warrington officiated and read the service In the presence of a large gathering of friends and relatives. Palms banked before the fire place formed a green foil for white gladiolus, the dainty blossoms of the lace vine and white cathedral tapers in candelabra. The staircase was wound with the lace vine, and the service was performed in soft candlelight. With Miss Norma Baker of Klam ath Falls at the piano, Miss Ro berta Borland of Grants Pass sang "I Love You Truly." Miss Baker played Lohengrin's wedding march The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her honor attend ant was her sister, Mrs. Eldon Ogle of Roseburg, while George Massey of Klamath Falls attended his brother as best man. Ushers were Don Johnson and William Kuyken dall. - Gowned In white lace, floor length, the bride wore an exquisite veil fashioned with long train. She carried white pom pom dahlias and gladiolus with a shower of the white lace blossoms and moire gros grain ribbon. Mrs. Ogle wore lav ender lace and carried gladiolus blooms of orange hue. During the reception which fol lowed Mrs. Arthur Fisher and Mrs. Lyle Porter Beardsley of Portland served, and Mrs. William Kuyken dall, a sister of the bridegroom, cut the wedding cake. Serving weie sorority sisters of the bride, including Miss Madge Marshall, Miss Marybelle Barrett, Miss Ona Carnine, Miss Mar J or ie Behrens and Miss Peggy Mulligan. Mr. and Mrs. Massey left later in the evening for a wedding trip in California. They will make their home in Salem where Mr. Massey is employed with the Capital Drug store. Mrs. Massey, who was graduated from Oregon State college, has been employed as secretary to Dr. W. L. Powers, on the college campus. Mr. Massey, too, was graduated from Oregon State, completing the course In pharmacy. Book Review Class Opened The Book Review class, sponsored by the Salem Woman's club and opened to the Interested public, will open Wednesday In the Woman's clubhouse at 2 o'clock. Miss Eve Knower will again be the commen tator and books to be reviewed to morrow include "The Flowering of New England" by Van Wyck Brooks. and "American Dream" by Foster. Mrs. C. W. The bow-tied blouse is surah and the beret is black felt. Inspiration prob ably came from tailoring shops for men. Mrs. Leon Brown Takes Office as Auxiliary Head The American Legion auxiliary installed its officers for the ensuing year at Impressive ceremonies held last night in the Fraternal temple. Following the installation Mrs. Leon Brown, the newly-msta lied presi dent, announced her standing committees for the ensuing year. Judge George Rossman was the speaker of the evening. His talk concerned the Constitution of the United States. Mrs. Gordon McGilchrist, accom panied by Mrs. Ted Gordon, sang a group of numbers. Following the session the auxiliary Joined the post for dancing and a late supper. The new officers for the auxiliary include Mrs. Leon Brown, president; Mrs. R. D. Wood row, first vice-pres ident; Mrs. Don McLeod, second vice-president; Mrs. Earl T. Andre sen, treasurer; Mrs. George Averett, sergeant-at-arms; Mrs. Glenn Por ter, finance officer; Mrs. Mem Pearce, historian ; Mrs. Herman Brown, chaplain. The executive board will include Mrs. Harold Perkins, Mrs, Fred Gahlsdorf and Mrs. Paul Ficke. Standing committees will be as follows: Americanism. Mrs. Condon was specially hon ored at the meeting of the Ameri can Legion auxiliary Monday nlgttt. She Is past president of O'Donnel- Eddy auxiliary in Chicago and was a delegate to the national conven tion In Portland a number of yeais ago, her only trip to Oregon until the present visit. The Fraternal Order of Eagles and auxiliary will sponsor a benefit card party at the Fraternal temple Wed nesday evening at 8 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. L, V. Benson and ut. and Mrs. Frank Prime were among the Salem folk glimpsed at the Pendleton Round-Up last week end. t The 7-S Sisterhood class of the First Christian church will meet at the home of Mrs. E. There will be a joint session of the Woman's Union and Missionary so ciety of the First Congregational church Wednesday afternoon In the church parlors. Mrs. Ralph Klnzer announce the reopening of her contract bridge classes for the winter season. Class es, which will be held both after noons and evenings, will start Oc tober 4. Miss Maude Robertson Wedded in Corvallis Miss Maude Robertson of Salem became the bride of William R. Coul ter at a small informal ceremony at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Ellis In Corvallis. Rev. Jesse Lacklen, pastor of the First Methodist Epis copal church, read the service. The rooms were decorated with fall flowers and lighted by candles. The bride wore a tea rose chiffon dress and carried Johanna Hill roses. For traveling she wore a black Im ported wool with Martin fur and white accessories and corsage of Jo hanna Hill roses. After a wedding dinner Mr. and Mrs. Coulter left for an extended eastern trip. In Detroit they will select a new car and visit a number of eastern cities, Including Wash ington, D. C, and New York. Driv ing back to the west, they will be at home in Seattle after October 25. Mrs. Coulter has been connected with the executive staff of the state Indusrtial school for girls. Couple Married In Medtord Tuesday Friends here are interested in tne announcement of the marriage of Nellie Simpson and Ernest Pearson, which was solemnized Tuesday eve ning at the First Methodist Episco pal church In Medford. Rev. John Knotts read the service and Mrs. John Hall and Mrs. Knott served as witnesses. The bride wore a smart rust-col ored ensemble with matching hat and accessories and a corsage of gardenias. Following a trip which took them to Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, Gold Hill, the Oregon Caves and coast points, Mr. and Mrs. Pearson will be at home in Fruitland. j Miss Leone Bartell Feted on Birthday Complimenting Miss Leone Bar tell on the occasion of her birth day a party was held recently at the Moyer residence in Wallace road. The rooms were bright with zinnias and colored lights. The hours were passed with dancing and cards. During the evening a waifle supper was served. The honor guest was presented with a number of gifts. Miss Margaret Cathey Married in Albany Albany Sunday at high noon, Miss Margaret Cathey of Bremer ton, formerly of Albany and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Ca they of Albany, and Harold Mc- Coun, of Bremerton, Wash., were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, with the Rev. D. V. Poling officiating. The bride wore a beige colored lace afternoon gown. Her only at tendant, Mrs. G. Anthony Cathey, wore black velvet. Mont Kllpatrick of Bellingham Wash., acted as best man. Mrs. J. Fred Braly played the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin pre ceding the ceremony. An Informal reception was held Immediately following the wedding with Mrs. I. A. McDowell and Miss Christine Pipe pouring. Only Immediate r?mbers of both families and a few intimate friends witnessed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. McCoun will make their home in Bremerton, where Mr. McCoun is manager of the Pa cific Telephone and Telegraph com pany. Student Rates Made For Concert Series Students, In public schools and at Willamette, will have the opportun ity to hear the world-famous ar tists being brought to Salem by the Community Concert association, which begins its membership drive September 27 and closes October 2. The adult price will be $5 for the concerts, students will be $1.50. Headquarters for the association will be Jaqulth music store at 456 Court street. The association's object in of fering membership for sale, without any single admissions being sold, is to guarantee adequate funds for hiring of artists. This plan has proved very successful In some 300 cities In the United States, Including Spokane, which has two aeries to handle the memberships; Klamath Falls, Longvlew, Everett and Taco ma, Wash. With 1000 paid members Salem will enjoy five concerts. Methodist Church Is Scene of Rites Lebanon Yesterday at a ceremony which was performed at 2 o'clock In the Methodist church, Zelpha, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, became the bride of F, R. Burlan, son of Mrs. Mary Burlan, before the immediate families of the couple. The bride, who was attended by her sister, Miss Helen Smith of Sa lem, wore a simple tailored frock of black velvet trimmed with astrakan. With it she wore black accessories and a corsage of small rosebuds com bined with sweet peas. Miss Smith wore black velvet with blouse of printed silk and black accessories. Her corsage was also of mixed flow ers. The ceremony took place at the chancel rail which was beautifully decorated with baskets of fall flow ers. Immediately following the cere mony a reception was held at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. A. P. Christenson. After a wedding trip the young couple will be at home to their friends at 312 North Second street. Mrs. Fred Holmes of Rockwell City. Iowa, has been a guest of her mother and sister, Mrs. Louisa Coon and Miss Ira D. Coon, for two weeks. En route to her home she will spend some time in Val lejo and Whit tier, Calif. The Woman's Union and Mis sionary society of the First Congre gational church will meet at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Priscilla Club is Honored at Lebanon Lebanon Mrs. Ivan Ayers enter tained the members of the Priscil la club at the first fall meeting held last Wednesday at which 11 mem bers and one guest, Miss Eunice Mackey of Salem, were present.
