KIMGWOOD AUXILIARY FILLS CEDAR CHEST West Salem The Auxiliary of the Kingwood post, American Legion, has been working for several months on many things to fill r. cedar chest which they brought fo1 the purpose. Among tho articles made for the chest are embroidered pillow slips, hemstitched sheets, embroidered hw chcon sets, a lovely quilt and many oLhcr pieces too numerous to men tion. The Auxiliary will give a tea at the Milo Jensen home on Edgewater street Wednesday from 2 until 4 o'clock when the chest and, all its contents will.be on displays-v.' . Burgoyne, pastor of the Methodist church at Sheridan, will lecture at the Wood- burn Methodist church on his trip through the Holy Land that he took about one and one-half years ago. The series of lectures will begin Monday night and wUT continue through Friday evening. Motion pic tures, stereopticon slides, costumes, curios and many othei intere:ng articles combine to make this series, of lectures of unusual interest and entertainment. Topics revealing ancient and mo dern life and sacred places of Pales tine will be presented. Kev. Burgoyne traveled over 50,000 miles in his pil grimage, studying in 27 nations of Europe, Asia and Africa, In his lectures he wears costumes-similar to those worn by the disciples and guides. He will give many interest ing and valuable sidelights on the people, religion, historv and the Bi ble and will also relate a variety of personal experiences among the peo ple of Bible lands. A large display of rare' and inter esting articles will be . exhibited. There will be no admission charge but an offering will oe taken each night. Each program will start at 7:30 o'clock. FINGER IS AMPUTATED Scotts Mills Mrs. Elmer Kein smith has returned home after spending a week in Portland with her husband who has been at the Veterans hospital for several weeks with a badly infected hand. LINFIELD COLLEGE CHOIR TO APPEAR Monmouth The Iiinlield college a capella choir of 36 voices will pre sent a concert at the Baptist church Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The choir will sing, as their name Im plies, without accompaniment. The group each year presents throughout the northwest a program of Christmas carols, old and new, making a week's trip during the Christmas season. Two years ago the choir toured western Washington and last year went 5cwn the Co lumbia river and along the coast. This year it hopes to tour southern Oregon during the Yuletide season. The singers are led by Mrs. Vir ginia Ward Elliott jt the Linfield conservatory of music It was Mrs. Elliott who first startnd the Linfield a capella choir work. This Is . her fifth year as director of the singers. RED CROSS DRIVE BRINGS RESPONSES Hubbard The largest enrollment ever reported by Hubbard In Red Cross enrollment was reported by Mrs. George Leffler and Mrs. Elmer Stauffer In charge of the member ship drive. The enrollment brought $65.50. The work was sponsored oy Arion Temple, Pythian Sisters. The territory covered the Hubbard school district which includes the State Training school for boys south of Hubbard. Superintendent Sam Laughlin reported a 100 per cent enrollment of officers and employes at the school. The Hubbard school also reported a 100 per cent en rollment of personnel. West Salem There has been a successful Red Cross drive in West Salem and vicinity this season. There has been no chairman of the Red Cross work In this neighborhood for more than a year but after the roll call there will be a meeting called for the purpose of electing one. RITY HALL BASEMENT WORK STARTS SOON Dallas Information has been re ceived here that the excavation work for the basement of the new city hall will be started Monday' morning and that a double shift will be employed on the job. .The esti mated cost of the project which is under the Works Progress Admin istration is $1118. . Bids for the new city hall will be opened Thursday mon:ing at 10 o' clock. Considerable satisfaction has been expressed by city officials over the start of the basement excava tion as it was felt that undue delay might result if this particular phase of the work was held up.
