Meet Monday The Leslie Parent-Teachers' as sociation will hold its next meeting Monday evening. November 25 at 7:30 o'clock at the school building. The speaker for the evening will be Prof. Thomas Gentle, a former teacher at Monmouth Normal school and the University of Ore gon. He is an interesting speaker and well known in Salem. Mrs. Gordon McGUchrist will give vocal solos, accompanied by Mrs. Ted Gordon. The Leslie Play ers, directed by Miss Vivian Carr, will present a play. Friends and patrons of Leslie Junior high school are urged to at tend and a special Invitation Is ex tended to the school teachers of the city. JAMES TURNBULL of Portland, president of the Ore gon department of the American Legion auxiliary, who was a guest of Capital unit at its meeting Mon day night. Distinguished Guest Visits in Capital Mrs. James H. Turnbull of Port land, president of the Oregon de partment of the American Legion auxiliary, was a guest of Capital unit at its meeting Monday night in Fraternal temple. Mrs, Turnbull brought interesting news of the na tional convention held In St. Louis which she attended, as well as en thusiastic approval of the new national president, Mrs. Melville Muckiestone of Chicago. One of the high spots of the con vention, Mrs. Turnbull says, was the presentation of a check for $1000 from the national Eight and Forty, fun and honor organization of the auxiliary, to be devoted to the na tional group's child welfare work. Mrs. Estill Brunk Hostess to Club Mrs. Estill Brunk entertained members of the Bono Tempo club at a dessert luncheon in her home Wednesday afternoon. Chrysan themums were arranged about the rooms and centered the small serv ing tables. Contract was in play during the afternoon with honors going to Mrs.) John Beakey. Bidden were Mrs. Bjarne Erlck- sen, an additional guest, Mrs. John Beakey, Mrs. Carl Emmons, Mrs. EtlU Brunk, Mrs. A. L. Adolphson, Mrs. Kenneth Waters, Mrs. Carl Schneider, Mrs. Glen Paxson, Mrs. B. M. Donaldson and the hostess, Mrs. Estill Brunk. The Three Link club will meet Friday afternoon at the I.O.OJ?. hall. The business meeting will start at 2:30 o'clock. Rovent Bjrt. phom Mil Miss'Kathryn Corey Bride of Tonight One of the most beautiful weo dlngs of the current season will be said this evening at 8 o'clock when MUs Kathryn Corey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Corey, becomes the bride of Howard Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Adams. Dr. Grover C. Birtchet will read the service at the Corey State street residence in the presence of the two Immediate families. There will be no attendants. A small reception will follow. Di rectly afterward the couple will leave for a motor trip to Vancouver and Victoria, B.C. Shower Compliments Miss Brunk A group of 40 friends entertained with a fireside tea and miscellan eous shower at the home of Mrs. Carey Martin Tuesday, afternoon in compliment to Miss Prudence Brunk. Mrs. Will Tielsen and Mrs. Walter M. Smith presided at the urns and Mrs. Margaret Montgomery asslstcil in serving. The tea table was centered with an artistic arrangement of pink and white chrysanthemums and snap dragons. Tall white tapers guard ed the arrangement. Mrs. Florence Shipp will open her home at 1630 Saginaw street to members of the W.R.C. and their friends Friday afternoon for a "500" party. Students Give Gay Party Students of the Capital Businesr college sponsored a gay party at the Y. M. C. A. last night. Roy Mink is president of the student body. Other officers Include Regin ald Rees, vice-president; Charles Winslow, secretary, Fern Dow, trea surer. The Thanksgiving motif was car ried out in the decorations, which were in charge of C. C. Seeley, Mar garet Caret, Carl Cording, Douglas Woodward, Peter Cleary and Ellis Doan Refreshments were served in the late evening by the committee in cluding Elizabeth Rowell, Mrs. Lou ise Robertson, Edward Schunke. Gladys MtUer, Reginald Rees and Hazel Ward. An Interesting program was ar ranged by D. J. Allison, Veldz Mar tin, Vera Leabo, Thelma Allor, Mar vin Kingwell and William Haskins. Faculty members receiving were W. I. Staley, Miss Maxine McLean, and Mrs. Ora F. Mclntyre. Others, assisting were Roy Mink, C. C. See ley, Virginia Jenks, Charles Wins low, Mildred White and Charles Wright. A similar affair will be given la ter in the winter by another group from the school, Mt. Angel Mr. and Mrs. William Prosser of Salem spent several days at the home of Mrs. Prosser's father, N. B. Traviss. They returned to their home Tuesday. I Miss Irma Walker and Miss Helen Way entertained Monday evening at the home of the former. Thanksgiv ing decorations were used. Guests included Julia Allen, Cath erine Brock, Inabelle Cruch. Junior Charity Dance At "Moon" Nov. 29 A group of girls of Salem's young er set are giving a "Junior Charity Dance" on the 29th of November at the Mellow Moon. The proceeds will be given to the spinsters for char ity work. Harry Wesley's orchestra will furnish the dance music. The dance will be a sports affair. The hours are from 9 to 12 oclock, EV' ery one Is Invited to attend. Committees in charge consist of the following: the Misses Barbara Pierce, Mildred Bender, Jeanne PrO' bert, Audrey , Fehler, Mary Dalo Cladelk, Frances Roth, Nona Wood dry, Mary Yeager, Inez Fisher and Anita Wagner. . Tickets may be obtained from the above girls. . ' B. and P. W. Board To Meet Friday The B. and P. W. of Salem ex ecutive board meeting will be held at the home of Miss Juana Holmes, 607 North Commercial street, Fri day night at 7:30 with all members requested to be present. Tuesday night the club will give a dinner at the Quelle. Miss Ruth Brauti will speak on her two years' sojourn abroad and Miss Lena Belle Tartar will sing. Reservations should be made with Miss Ruth McAdams, dial 7279, before Mon day noon. . Mr. and Mrs. Gail Jones have returned from a trip to Lcc Ange les where they were guests of Mrs. Jones' sister, Mrs. Ernest Wagner (Bertha Miller). The auxiliary to the National Let ter Carriers' association will meet Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Frank Zlnn, 2030 South Church street. . An event of interest calendared for Friday afternoon is the annual Harvest Home tea at the Old Peo ple's home. The affair is being Spon sored by the Methodist women of the city and all interested persons are invited to attend. The Lincoln Parent-Teacher as sociation will meet at the school this even at 7:30 o'clock for an inter esting program. R. R. Boardman will speak on"Transient Life" and O. M. Thurber will discuss the "Great American Tragedy," con cerning safety in the home. Ruby Rosprafka, Sclo high school senior and an accomplished musi cian and vocalist, will enter upon a 15-minute program of broadcasting over KOAC at Corvallis at 1 o'clock next Saturday. , Mildness Couples Honored On Anniversaries Scotts Mills Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Hogg entertained the Good Time club at their home Sunday night. The evening was spent playing "500" and dancing. Mrs John Plas won high score for women and Leo Ayres high score for men, Kurt Weidc man won the draw prize. Before supper was served, Mr. and Mrs. John Plas and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Biersack were escorted to the living room before a table on which were two beautiful cakes, one in hon or of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Biersack's 15th wedding anniversary, the other honoring Mr. and Mrs. Plas 10th wedding anniversary. Hugh Magee, president, presented each couple with a gift from the club. Present were Mr. and Mrs. M, Dorgan, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Fenton post auxiliary of the Am erican Legion met at the home Mrs. Jack Eakin Tuesday with Mrs. J. R. Beck, Mrs. Frank Wilson and Mrs. Charles Watson as assisting hostesses. Seal Sale .Opens Thanksgiving Day SUverton Thanksgiving marks the active beginning of the Marion county seal sale for he aid or tuber cular cases of the state. Mrs. J. Werle is county chairman. Mrs. Clarence Keene and Mrs. Wil liam MacNelll of Silverton are in charge of the educational work, Tom Ballantyne is publicity chairman for Mrs. Werle and the Junior Woman's club will manage strett booths. Among the activities under way for the sale was a special meeting of a number of members of the Girl Reserve groups Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. J. N. Ballantyne to assist Mrs. Werle In preparing supplies which will be delivered throughout the county by a volun teer motor corps composed of Mrs. Werle, Mrs. H. W. Preston, Mrs. H. Prltzlaff, Mrs. George Steelhammer and Mrs. Charles Reynolds. . Marriage Announced Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Clark of Sa lem are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Katherlne, and Wil lis B. HU1 of Ontario, Canada. The marriage was said at Newport No vember 16. Rev. Grafius read the service. The couple will take up their residence In San Francisco. Mrs. Hill attended Salem schools and Is well-known here. Bigger of Covelo, Calif., are visiting at the home of Mrs. Bigger's brother and sister. Frank and Roberta Cary. Mr. Bigger is a state senator in the California legislature, having serv ed several years in the lower branch of the law making body previous to being promoted by the voters to his present position.
