Sports Dance
Feature of
Friday Night
In keeping with the gay activi
ties of tournament week In Salem,
several prominent young men, all
alumni of Salem high school, will
be hosts Friday evening at S o'clock
at a sports dance In the armory
They have bidden as guests the
alumni and present students of Sa-,
lem high and guests who are in the ;
capital city for the state tourna
ment. The sports motif will be empha
sized in the decorations with bright
ly colored streamers, basketballs and
emblems used about the rooms,
Combined with striking arrange
ments of spring flowers and softly
glowing lights.

The Writers Section of the Sa
lem Arts league met Tuesday eve
ning at the home of Mrs. Hay Yo
cum. The early evening hours were
spent In reading creative stories and
verse. At the supper hour Mrs.
Yocum was assisted by her daugh
ter. Miss Rachel.
Present were Dr. and Mrs. F. G.
Franklin, Mrs. Ora F. Mclntyre,
Dr. Mary Rowlnnd, Mrs. Blanche

Dr. Mary Rowland will entertain
the group next month in her home

The Maccabees will entertain at
a card party this week instead of
the regular business meeting. The
affair will be h Id in the Knights
of Pythias hall and all friends are
invited.
The benefit bridge luncheon plan
ned for Fritl-iy, March 23, by the
Women's Alliance of the Unitarian
c';'i h has been postponed until
April 20.
The Ladles' Aid of the Women's
Relief Corps will hold an all day
meeting Thursday at the fair
grounds. A covered dish luncheon
will be served at noon.
The executive board of the Busi
ness and Professional Women's club
will meet Tuesday evening, March
27, at 5:30 o'clock in the Y. M. C. A.
This session will precede the regu
lar pot Kick dinner.
Miss Corbett To
Wed Next Friday
Portland friends of Miss Gretchen
Corbett, who is now In Boston, have
received announcements that her
marriage to Dr. John Poulsen Trom
mald will be solemnized quietly next
Friday in the east. Mr. and Mrs.
Elliott R. Corbett, who have been
visiting in California, left Monday
to be present at their daughter's
wedding. Miss Leslie Corbett, who
is a student at Smith, will be her
sister's only attendant.
Miss Gretchen is the second of
the Corbett sisters to be married
within three months. The marriage
of Caroline Corbett and Ivisou
Macadam of London was an event
of New Year's day In Portland.
Miss Corbett attended Miss Hall's
school in Pittsfield, and after a year
in Europe returned to Portland
where she has been working for the
past two years with the public wel
fare bureau. She is a member of
the Junior league.
Dr. Trommald, who Is the son of
Mrs. Paul C. King and Mr. King,
is a graduate of Groton, Yale and
the Harvard medical school and Is
at present an interne at the Boston
city hospital. The couple will reside
in Boston.

Mrs. George A. White and her two
daughters, Mrs. George Elmer Era-
Igh, Jr., of Burns and Miss Hen-
riette, sailed from Portland today
on the States Liner General Persh
ing for Japan, China and the Philippines.
Mrs. White and her daughters will
remain with the General Pershing
to Manila and will return as far as
Japan, staying three weeks there
and returning home on the Liner
, General Sherman. They will reach
Portland June 7.

charming affair Tuesday afternoon

tract. Pastel-hued spring flowers form
ed the centerpiece on the luncheon

orated with large bouquets of daf
fodils and narcissi. High score hon
ors for bridge went to Mrs. J. J.
