C Larson on tlie Scandia road was entered by thieves Saturday evening sometime between 8 and 0:30 o'clock and every one of the seven rooms and the basement were ransacked, with the result Uiat the Larson family lost all their cloth silverware, a large amount of money, jewelry, bedding, linens, in fact about everything In the house except the dishes and the bare furniture. Miss Viola Larson, a student In the Pacific Lutheran college at Parkland, Wash., had Just arrived home for the Christmas holidays, and brought with her all her wear ing apparel, which was missing entirely. Miss Margaret Oelzik, teacher In the district In which the Larsons live, who was boarding at the Larson home also lost all her clothing. $150 in money and two suif cases. The thieves must have carried their loot away In a car as the house is directly on the Salem-Sll-verton highway, and it was impos sible to Rain clues from tracks left. There seem to have been no indi cations whatever as to who the marauders were though the county authorities are at work on the case. Mission Bottom The home of A. N. Parson and T. R. Jelderks was broken into and robbed Friday eve ning while the families were at a Christmas program at the school lioues. The house was stripped of dishes, silverware, groceries and clothing. Every item of clothing, including shoes belonging to the little Jelderks girls were taken, leaving them with only the clothes they were wearing. parson s clothes were thrown out of the closet and left, evidently they were tne wrong size to fit the thiev es. A fine ahobiun. 26 pounds of honey and a quantity of sausage was also taken. Bedding from the down' stains guest room was stolen. Entrance was gained Into the house by breaking the glass In the front door and turning the key that had been left In the lock from the Inside. INDEPENDENCE CARD CLUB ENTERTAINED Independence Mr. and Mrs. C. O, JSloper were hosts to the members of the Kill Kare club at their home on South Main street Friday eve ning. following a no-hmt dinner served by the Booster club of the Melhodist church. Five tables of "500" were In play, Mrs. B. P. Swope winning high score for the women and J. G. Mcintosh high score for the men. It Is thought Mcintosh made the highest score attained by nny member of the club during the life of the organization, &:ieo being the score, with Mrs. JSwope making 3600. Following the game & short busi ness meeting was held presided over by Mrs. Harrison Brandt, president, and the matter of a Joint meeting with the Nesika Bridge club for New Year's nittht was discussed. A com mittee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for such a meeting to be held at the Woman's club building. It was announced that Mr. and Mrs. George Carbrny were the next hosts of the club for New Year's niht. Social Card Party Planned At Hubbard Hubbard The Knight of Pythias will be hosts at a social card party at their hall Saturday. Assisting them will be Mrs. Susie Moore, Mrs. Ella Stauffer and Mrs. Anna Scholl. Plans for this evening of "500'' were discussed at the meeting of A Hon temple, Pythian Sisters, recently. Mi;a Orva Barrett, presiding officer, appointed Mrs. Margaret McMannis, Mrs. Siilc Moore and Mrs. Sadie Bcholl as an auditing committee to examine the books of the organiza tion. Good Record Made By Hubbard Girls Hubbard Five girls made ft straight "1" In the six weeks' test In the Hubbard high school. The Middle Grove orchestra played sev eral numbers, Paul Winslow accom panied by Mrs. McCain at the piano fuvored the audience with several violin solos. Silvcrton Xmas Tree Is Chosen By Lumber Crew SUverton Twenty -six mem bers of the Silver Falls Lum ber company chartered a rail way train Thursday and went several miles Into the mountains of the company's holdings. In search of the "largest" Christmas tree and many smaller trees for city decorations. The city tree, which Is 55 feet tall. Is being erected Monday at the Intersection of Main and First streets and is being equipped with three times the number of colored lights as of former yen rs. All tlie business concerns of town have made possible the community program in which every child of Silvcrton and the immediate community will be remembered. WACONDA CLUB SEASON NEARS FINAL AFFAIR Waconda An Interesting meeting of the Waconda community club was held Wednesday all day, at the home of Mrs. William McGllchrlst on the river road In Mission Bottom. A tur key dinner was served to the group at noon. Quilting for the hostess was the principle work of the day. The vice president, Mrs. Robert Cole, presided during the business session, due to the absence of the president. The secretary was also absent and Mrs. M. Osgood took charge of the sec retary work. One outstanding bill was paid. Christmas greetings wilt be sent to all club members who will not be In this section over the holi days. Two new members, Mrs. Ted Jelderks and Mrs. Normand Parsons Joined the club and will be initiated at the next regular meeting. Erickson Seeking Divorce and Child Hubbard Divorce proceedings are pending In Clackamas county court between E. O. Erickson and Frances Erickson, the latter al ledguig cruelty In her complaint. Erickson is one of the younger business men, is a member of the lire department,, clerk of the city council and a member and finan cial secretary of the Hubbard com munity band. Youths Uninjured When Hit by Train high school student, and Russell and iic.v vuner cM-'iipca serious injury late Thursday night when the car in which they were riding was struck by a Southern Pacific train at Laf ayette and Foutrh streets, Benedict, who was driving the car, failed to see the train which was traveling at a slow rate of speed. Benedict sus tained a gash on his forehead. He was taken to the Albany general hospital where first aid was administered. Christmas Programs I For Labish Center Labteh Center Two Christmas, programs have been arranged here I to be presented at the schoolhouse. The first, the Sunday school pro gram was given Sunday evening and the school program will be given Wednesday evening. The young peo ple's classea of the 8uuday school under the direction of their teachers, Mrs. E. O. Homschuch and Harry E. Boehm, are preparing to do some carolling this week. A report showed that nearly one hundred quarts of can ned fruit and 15 glasses of Jams and Jellies were sent last week to tlie Oregon-Washington Pythian home at Vancouver, Wash. Num bers were drawn by the members that designated the name of one of the boys or girls In the Pythian home for which a personal Christ mas gilt will be prepared and sent. The children's unit of the home now has 33 young people, three of which are Sllverton children. The aiyiuftl chrUtmas tree and program were given at the local hall Friday. This was open to families or Home Temple No. J and to Knights of Pythias, Home lodge No. 35. The members voted to send Mrs. Hadley, most excellent chief of Home Temple No. 21, a postal card shower. There were present as visitors Mrs. Nona Mount Kinney of Pal Ion, Nevada, and Manager Beulah Bowen, Taft. Ore. Past chief pins were for Ruth McPike and La Vonne Bowne. A number of appli cations for new members were passed on favorably, and the chair appointed tho following audit ing committee : Henrietta Loe. Leta Olsen and Essie Specht. At the next regular meeting of the order there will be an organization of the degree staff of which Lillian Keald is captain. The proceeds of the sale of a quilt at the Oregon Loggers entertainment, Saturday night, will be applied on the altru istic fund of the Sllverton Temple. PAST NOBLE GRAND CLUB ENTERTAINED Jefferson The Past Noble Grand club of the Mt. Jefferson Rebekah lodge met Thursday afternoon In the lodge rooms of the I. O. O. P. hall for their regular meeting. At the close of the brief business ses sion a social hour was enjoyed and gifts were distributed from a beau tifully decorated Christmas tree. At the tea hour refreshments were, served. Perrydale Pupils To Offer Program Perrydale The Christmas com munity tre and program will be held Wednesday evening, at th school auditorium. The grades and high school under the supervision of the (acuity, have spent a great deal of tune, the past two weeks preparing a program for the com munity. Every one is urged to at tend. INDEPENDENCE SCHOOL ENDED Independence The training school closed from the Christmas vacation Friday and will not re sume work until January 4, when a new group of practice teachers will be assigned. Tliis week has been a busy week for teachers and pupils alike In the preparation and rendering of Christmas programs. The halls and rooms of the building are a veri table Christmas garden, displaying beautifully decorated Christmas trees, holly and mistletoe wreaths, colored lights throughout the sev eral apartments. A large tree near the entrance to the lower hall attracted wide atention as it was here that the pupils and teachers placed their ,;ifli for distribution. Wednesday evening "The First Christmas" was presented by pu pils under the direction of Mrs. Hutchinson assisted by Miss Ritter and MLa Eckman. to a cnpprlty house in the school auditorium. Colored lights made a very at tractive stage' setting.
