New Catholic Court Formed, Milwaukie Stayton A new court of the Catb olic Order of Foresters will be Insti tuted at Milwaukie Sunday under the direction of the state organizer, John Deschner pi Portland. The initiatory degree work will be in charge of the state court degree team, under the direction of Ed ward J. Bell of Stayton, state secre tary, assisted by members of the Su blimity lodge. BIBLE SCHOOL HAS INCREASE West Salem Ronald Glover, Sa lem attorney, will speak Sunday morning in Ford Memorial church. taking as his subject "The Bible as the Basis of Law." Miss Trula Grant and the junior chorus will give musical numbers. Rev. M. A. Groves will preach in the evening at 8 o'clock. His sermon topic will be "The Marks of Dicipleship." Spe cial music Includes a vocal duet by Mr. and Mrs. rrea Rose. The West Salem community va cation Bible school's enrollment has Increased to 67, making an average attendance for the . week of 46. Classes will continue each day until Friday, June 19. A picnic will be held the last day and in the evening a program and demonstration will be given in the Ford Memorial church. Miss Trula Grant has charge of the upper divisions, Rev. M. A. Groves of the primary classes and Mrs. McNown of the kindergarten group. Mrs. J. R. COMEDY SPONSORED BY DEVANEY GRODUP Jefferson A social and enter tainment was given recently at the Dcvaney school house sponsored by the Social Hour club of that community. The main feature of the entertainment was a comedy, "Chintz Cottage, ' given by the fol lowing cast; Lizzie, Margaret Dcnsmorc; Fanny, Margaret Goin Aunt Aggie, Frances Goin: Peter, Melvin Epley; Mr. Kent, James Ashfoid;. REBEKAH LODGE HOLDS ELECTION Jefferson Mrs. Mary Pat ton and Mrs. Ada Wells entertained mem bers of the Past Noble grand club of the Mt. Jefferson Rebekah lodge Thursday afternoon In the lodge rooms of the I. O. O. F. hall. Election of officers was held and the following were elected for the ensuing year: Maude Black well, president; Stella Hart, vice presi dent; Kelthel Smith, secretary-trea surer. It was voted that the next meeting in July would be a picnic for the members and their families at Cascadla. At the close of the business ses sion, games and contests were en joyed, the main feature being a flag making contest. Two sides were chosen with Mrs. Keithel Smith and Mrs. Elmina Thurston as lc lers. The side led by the latter wcu the prize. At the tea horn a two-course luncheon was served by the Hostess es. Children's Program For Turner Sunday Turner The annual children's day program wllL be presented Sun day morning at the Turner Meth odist Episcopal church during the Sunday school hour, under the di rection of Mrs. William S. Burgoyne. Readings, exercises and special rau- sio will be featured. There will be only one more Sunday service after tomorrow before the conference at Eugene. Douglas B. Parkes has been elected laymen's delegate, and Ivan Hadley, Sunday school superinten dent, is the alternate. Kleffman of Corvallis snd daughter accom panied her husband to Stayton Turfxiay evening for her first visit to the town. Kleffman is Instructor of the K. of C. band. The next meeting of the band, set for Thurs day evening, will be held at Stayton to avoid a conflict with the K. of C meeting. Surprise Is Given Silverton Mrs. Louis' Meyers of the Paradise Alleyway, entertained for per daughter, Althca, with a sur prise birthday party at the Meyers home Thursday evening. The motorcycle belonged to his younger brother, Clarence, of Silverton, who went to Portland Thursday and brought the machine back School Districts To Cast Ballots Gervais School district No. 76 will hold its annual meeting at the public schoolhouse Monday evening. At this time a clerk to serve three years and a clerk for one year will be voted upon, besides the usual transaction of business. On June 23. beginning at a o'clock in the afternoon, the Union high school district No. 1 will hold an an nual meeting at the high school for the purpose of electing one director to serve for live years. C. and went to the forestry service, was pain fully Injured when he and Hugh Mathews were attempting to crank a gas engine in order to run a pump at the lire above Detroit. The crank flew off and struck Virgil across the (ace. breaking a cheek bone and cutting a gash across an eye. Aid Election Held By Stayton Women Stayton The members of the Methodist Ladles' Aid met at the home of Mrs. Cliarles Stowell Thurs day afternoon. This was a regular bufiuiess meeting held for the pur pose of electing officers and the re sult of the election being as follows: Mrs. it. J. Stayton Club Girls Take Summer Work Stayton Miss Esther Ruef, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Ruef, and Miss Gladys Blum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Blum, members of the 4-H club of Howell district No. 88, which adjoins stayton on the east, are attending a special course or summer school at O. A. C. at Corvallis. Tills course Is open to a number of the outstanding mem- Mrs ol tne various clubs, who pay the expenses of their representatives at the school with funds raised through their various activities. The club has been under the supervision of Miss Janice Donovin of Mill City and school teacher of district No. The club has done excellent work all year. Divorce Is Sought By Dallas Resident Dallas La Verne Bonney seeks to be divorced from Alfonso Bonney. In her complaint she states they were married at Salem on April 1919 and that two children were bom of "the marriage, Louis II and Rosalyn 10.' The plaintiff claims that she has been subjected to cruel and Inhuman treatment, that the defendant has called her ugly names on numerous occasions, that he has failed to support her and that he has violated the state laws several times thereby causing her to suffer great humiliation. She desires to have the marriage annuled, to be given the control of the children and to be allowed a reasonable amount for the upkeep of herself and the children. BOYS ON TRIP Amity Robert Cannell, a member of the graduating class of Amity high tills June, and Chet Miller left Thursday for an automobile trip to Tacoma. Wash. ' Community Clubs To Combine for Picnic Central Howell The Central Bowen Community club hsa been Invited to attend a picnic of com munity clubs at the Silverton city park on Friday evening. June 1, each club will have a large table. Coffee will be furnished by the committee from the Silverton club. Bach club Is also asked to present one number on the entertainment, tne winner to receive a cup, ST. ANN WOMEN GIVEN PRIZES Mt. Angel The members of the St. Ann's society were honored at the annual social of the society Thursday afternoon in the St. Mary's school auditorium. Approxi mately 100 members were In atten dance. Cards and conversation was the diversion of the afternoon. A luncheon was served by the com mittee in charge. Including Mrs. A. A. Kllnger, Mrs. Andrew Wachter and Mrs. Steve Schmidt. The daugh ters of the members assisted in serv. ing. Fifteen cakes were auctioned, prices received ranged from 26c to 85c . . ' A feature of the affair was the awarding of the prizes. The honor gift was given to the oldest mem ber, Grandma Wels, 90 years of age. She was unable to attend on ac count of illness. Mrs. David Back received the award as being .the oldest member present. Mrs. John Ebner and Mrs. Susanna Beyer re ceived the draw prizes, and the door prizes .went to Mrs. Irene Hauth and Mrs. N. O. Mickel. At cards the high score honors were awarded to Mrs. Mary Schwab and Mrs. Louis LeDoux, and the low scores to Mis. A. Knorl and Mrs. Christine Kron- berg. Los Angeles People Honored at Dinner Hazel Green Mr. and Mrs. Mau rice Dunnlgan were hosts recently for an attractive dinner, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Jack White of Los Angeles, and Frank Chapman of Sheridan. Mrs. White Is a cousin and Mr. Chapman an uncle of Mrs. Dunnlgan. Covers Were placed for the honor guests. Grandsons Honored With Picnic Event Hazel Green Mr. and Mrs. Will Davis were hosts recently for a de lightful picnic party honoring their grandsons, George Dunnlgan and Billy Davis. Perfect at tendance certificates were presented by Mr. Allen to Arthur Dempsey, John Miller, Ora stouffer, Charles Brown, Frances Lantz, Lewis Brown, Max Wilson and Carl Brwn. According to Mrs. H. A. TWO DIRECTORS TO BE CHOSEN MONDAY Silverton Robert Duncan, man ager of the local H. L. Stiff store and Attorney Custer Ross, with law offices both In Salem and Silver- ton, are candidates' for the three year directorships on the school board. Election will be held in the senior high school building Monday, the polls opening at 2 o'clock In the af ternoon and closing at 7 o'clock. The two outgoing directors are Robert Duncan, who seeks to suc ceed himself and W. L. Cunning ham, who has changed his residence from Silverton to Portland. REVIEW AT MILL CITY Mill City A delegation from the Albany Women's Benefit Association Review was entertained Wednesday evening In the lodge rooms by the Mlil City W. B. A. Review No. t. Meeting was called to order by Mrs. Mary Carter, acting president for the Mill City Review. A display drill was put on by the visitors, those talcing part were attired In costumes. Mrs. Nellie Reed, all of Portland, have arrived In Hazel Green where they will be the guests of Rev. Luckey's brother Orville, for an indefinite period. Rev.
