Industrial Journallfm and music from the state college. He also urged the retention of home eco nomics at the college, disposal ot which was undetermined by the re port of the survey commission. Indication that tlx board was considering either the consolidation of the two larger Institutions under one head or all Institutions placed under one administration, with pos sibility of following the survey re port to a large extent on division of upper class subjects, was given l. nutations asked by different members of the board of Kerr and Hall following the presentation oi their briefs. C. C. Pease asked If the Institu tions would be prepared to handle the different subjects If the survey changes were carried out. Both Hall and Kerr stated they were not pre pared to answer the query until they had been given time to ascertain f.icts concerning the extent of the iranfer. Mrs. Walter Pierce suggest- ed that transfer of the subjects would disrupt the housing condi tions as well as status of the fra ternities and sororities, ehe presumed. Hector MacPherson, representa tive of Linn county, attended the session and suggested the board consider the situation from an out side point of view and not take into consideration tne curricula argu ments as presented by the two col lego heads. He stated that as far as he could ascertain, there was but one question to be solved, and that the matter of administration. All other solutions would resolve them selves around this. His suggestion was made to the board Just prior to adjournment. In Introducing hi discussion of proposals, Dr. Hall suggested the consolidation of the five Institutions under one head, as branches of the University of Oregon. However, he vigorously protested combining the pure sciences with the institution which would teach the applied sci ences. He stated this would tear down one institution without build' ing up the other. Dr. Kerr was emphatic In his pro test of taking the commercial cours es from the state college, which, he said, was allied so closely with agri culture, engineering and forestry. Commerce and business go hand In hand with these professions, and had no place in an institution where only liberal arts were taught Dr., Hall consumed three hours, while i Kerr took almost as much time In presenting their arguments favoring and protesting various phases of the survey commission report.
