A large oil truck with a trailer tins, going south met large truck also with a trailer, traveling north at about Uie center of the bridge Due to the extreme narrowness of the bridge It Is Impossible for two trucks or busses of the larger else to pass. In addition to this three-art play there vera readings and musical selections by members of the cast and a reading by Edna Loe of the valley. Tlie proceeds made by the Com munity club of which Oscar Loe is president, will go towards fixing up the sehoolhouse for club and other evening meeting purposes. MRS. AUSTIN GIVEN BIRTHDAY SURPRISE Talbot Mrs. Robert Austin was the honor guest at a surprise par ty when a group of her friends gathered at tlie country home near here to celebrate her birthday an niversary. Three tables of "500" were in play during the evening. High score was won by Robert Austin, and consolation by Mrs. C. F. John ston. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Davidson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Austin, JEFFERSON DOCTOR'S NEW MACHINE STOLEN Jefferson Dr. J. O. Van Winkle's new automobile was stolen from In front of his residence about 6:30 Monday evening. Two boys, 16 or 17 years of age, carrying packs on thetr backs, and who were seen walking along the street prior to the theft are suspected of taking the car. Dr. Van Winkle came out of his residence just as his car was being driven away but did not realize for a moment or two that it was his machine which was being taken. The toastma&ter for the evening was Rev. Samuel E. Long, pastor of the church. The fathers were rep resented by Howard Stephens and Georg Deumore. Answers by the sons were made by John Puutlo and Denztt Wilson. Tlie major speech of the evening was given by Rev. Nelson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, McMlnn vtlle. His topic was the "Perfect Partnership between Father and Son," and his closing remarks were the heart of his message: "When the father lives the hie he requires the mother to live then this gener ation will be the greatest the world has ever known." The decorative color scheme was green and red. with ropes of green laurel, fir and Oregon gram bou quets of red berries and po inset t as below. The Ladies' Aid Is to be compli mented on the food and manner of serving. They were assisted by the following girls: Viola Puumala. El sie Puumala, Barbara Rogers, Mir iam Bice. Todd and Hume where she under went an emergency operation for appendicitis. She Is reported doing fairly well but la running 1 high temperature. John Frick was taken to the hos pital Friday suffering with pneu monia, Mrs. Frlclc Just returned from a Portland hospital where she underwent a major operation sev eral weeks ago. TEACHERS AT L00NEY BUTTE HOLD SESSION Marlon The Teachers' club met at the Looney Butte sehoolhouse. A decusslon of geography projects 0 the past month was held and It was decided to continue tlie same, taking as the next unit of work the continent of Africa. A splendid short talk on the training or young children in which &he stressed the importance of using encouragement rather than punish ment as a means of guilding the child, was given by Mrs. C. A. Celesta Vanderpool, a clever little actress, and her maid have followed Marston Bobbs to the hotel upon receipt of a mystifying letter received by trie actress. This Is a very Interesting play and full of laughs. It Is expected the hall will be crowded to capacity. PLAN DECORATIONS FOR SIDNEY GRANGE Sidney Tlie home economics committee of Ankeny Grange No. 540 met at the home of Mrs. Helen Doty tlie first meeting since the election of Mrs. A. E. Cole as chair man and Miss Oma Emmons att secretary-treasurer. Plans were made for furnishing drapes and blinds for the grange hall, and for finishing a quilt which was donated by Mrs. G. H. Mariatt, which Is to be sold later. Calcimine for redecorating the grange hall was donated by G. H. Mariatt. J, O. Barr, Mrs. O. H. Mariatt and Mrs. Eva Winterman tel were appointed as a committee to secure samples of different drape materials and to have them ready for inspection at a special meeting which will be held at tha social meeting of the grange January 17. Hereafter meetings of the home economics committee will be held on the second Saturday of each month, It was decided upon vote of the members. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Doty, at 4 o'clock.
