Titles of the land have been formally passed on by the at torney general and the government has announced lu acceptance. The tract given by the two states covers an area of 158.876 50 acres and will form a nucleus for a park with a minimum area of 427,000 acres. Under the act of Congress authorizing Its establishment, the park may be extended to Include over 700,000 acres. Plans have been made for trans ferring from western parks sev eral men of experience In national park work, who will take care or the new area until Its minimum acreage has been received and It gains full pare status. Thereat Smoky Mountain Na tional Park will have roads and trails, being planned like the west ern parks, and will be divided equally between North Carolina and Tennessee. A great mountain range will carry the border between the states. The new national park Ss mil lion dollar protect. The act under which H was established provided for donations of land In order to reach the full status. Other east ern parks which have been thorlzed by Congress and which are awaiting receipt of land are the Shenandoah National Park In Virginia and the Mammoth Cave project in Kentucky. Dr. Paul B. Cooper, relative and personal physician to Bowles, who Is held as a material witness in the ease, told authorities he had called Cullers after he attended Mrs. Bowles. Culler's chauffeur was one of two men Identified by a witness having been In front of the Loucks apartment when ambulance attendants took away a shrouded lorm. a Discrepancies which he admitted in Dr. Cooper's original statement concerning the time of Mrs. Bowles' death led to murder charges being filed against Bowles and Miss Loucks. Dr. Cooper first contended as did Bowles and Miss Loucks, that Mrs. Bowles died 20 minutes after he arrived at the apartment. He finally admitted after days of ques tloning that she died two or three minutes after he arrived and about 20 minutes before an ambulance was called to take her to an undertak lng parlor. REPORTS PROGRESS ON TURNER LIBRARY Work which is under way on tho new public library and memorial museum at the town of Turner is expected to be finished about April 1, according to 8. M. Endlcott, local attorney, who has charge of tho work for Mrs. Cornelia Davis who Is donating tho funds for erection of the structure. Endlcott states that the concrete for the basement has been poured and as soon as this sets, work will continue. The building will have a full basement and will be one story high of reinforced con crete covered by stucco. The main part of the upper floor will be for a public library. One end of the building will bo used as a memorial museum dedicated to the. memory of Lewis H. Turner. There) will be housed many of the lietr looms of the Turner family which were turned over to the Eugene Bi ble university but to be returned to Turner when the building Is occu pied. It Is expected the museum will be kept up from year to year to re main as a continuing history of Tur ner and the family.
