By the end of the present week some 2900 feet of two Inch high pressure lateral feeders will have been Installed. r Theae lateral feeders run east and west and are fed from the four Inch line which is laid along Levens street. A crew of 40 men are at pres ent employed by the company and under present conditions no more will be employed. McLean states that of the present force 34 are local men and that in the selection of his crew prefer ence was given to those who were married. It is his belief that the back of the employment situation has been broken locally by the hlr- ing of these men aa he has very, few applicants for Jobs now eom ! pared with the time when work was i first started inside the city limits. t. Prank Pelton was the first 1 to discover It in his orchard, but ; upon investigation it was found in the other orchards also. The Col ton chorus and also the Rural Dell chorus sang several selections and Mtas Alma Larkins sang a solo. Rev. H. L. Weiss, chairman of the Methodist Episcopal commission of Christian education, gave one of the most interesting and modern addresses on the effect of teaching on the character of scholars of the Sunday school. Plans were dlsclsacd for banquet for the Daseoau team, Pamona picnic at Sllverton park, North Howell home coming, Hallowe'en party and corn show. The various committees made reports. A poster committee of three, Kna Harmon, Sam Got- tenberg and Tom Bump, was ap pointed by the grange master. Plans were made for a North Howell home coming some time in September at the . North Howell grove. The lecture hour was de voted to county agent discussions. J. Barham and occu cupled by Arthur Smith. This Is the sixth year that Camp bell has attended the Legion state conventions in this capacity. Camp bell intends returning Sunday. MILL CITY LADIES AID ENTERTAINED Mill City The Ladies' Aid enter tained at the home of Mrs. L. C. Chance In honor of Mrs. John Ey man who is leaving with her fam ily for Lewiston. W. The Aid enjoyed s number of stories of travel and the Aid pre sented Mrs. Eyman with a lovely picture in appreciation of the help sne naa given in the society. POLK COUNTY ROAD PROJECTS LIMITED Dallas A limited amount of road work Is being performed on the Salt creek cutoff road by the county. most oi tne work being located on Butler hill and at Hart bridge. Pres ent plans call for the widening of the road at these two points to stan dard width. No definite plans have been drawn up with regard to next year s program but it is extremely likely that the work to be done will attain considerable proportions In view of the fact that with the ne cessary improvements completed an increased volume of traffic will pass over this road to the coast. ATTEND DRILL Jefferson Captain J. O. Van Winkle and Corporal Verdo Harris attended the regular drill practice of their Hospital Company at Leb anon Monday evening. Ivan Stewart and Crittenden fami lies spent Monday evening on the Molalla river at Canby. Among the guests with them were Mrs. May Bennett and sons. Leo and Harry of Monroe, Wash. Mrs. Bennett was formerly Miss May Critt3nden daughter of C. M. Crittenden, and sister of Jay and Ruby. She has been visiting with her father and oiner relatives and friends for the past three weeks and will return to ber home Sunday. The registration totaled over 500 this year which Is lota more than usual. Portland district won th sports contest this year while the camp beautiful contest for large leagues was won by Jason Lee camp with Rose City Park second and Cor vallis third. The camp beautiful contest for small leagues was won by Falls City, with Oak Orove second and Jefferson third. The attendance was won by Jason Lee, with Corvallis second. For the small leagues Pratum won first. Nearly all the faculty have gone. The cooks left Monday and P. N. Haroun, registrar, left Tuesday. Mr. Miles will not leave until Fri day. Rev. Walter Warner left Sunday night for Tacoma, Wash., where he will attend a school for young ministers. Porches and wa ter fixtures are the subject of Im provement. 12)11 IS Broken All AO 326 State Street BARN DESTROYED ON WOLFER PLACE SUverton The fir department was called to the old barn on the former Wolfard place at the end of North James avenue Monday af ternoon. The barn burned to the ground but firemen kept the fire from spreading to bouse located near the barn. It Is thought that the barn caught fire from sparks from fires set along the railroad tracks. ELDERLY MAN IS HURT IN ACCIDENT Donald Two cars traveling at a high rate of speed collided at the intersection oi the west side of the city Sunday afternoon, resulting In serious Injury of Joseph Langdon, 81, of Jennings Lodge. He was accompanied by his son and another young man and was riding In a roadster which waa struck broadside by a large car driv en by a young man from Portland. Langdon was carried into the Gooch home and Dr. B. F, Glesy was called from Aurora to administer first aid.
