Dr. H. C. Epley, of Salem, led the crowd that filled the auditorium, and also sanf one of bia own composition. Mrs. Gordon McOilchrist, of Salem, gave a reading and Mrs. Ted Gor don, of Salem, presided at the piano. Dr. P. O. Riley editor of the Hub bard Enterprise, and president of the Marion County Federated clubs, gave an address on community ac tivity. Short talks were made by H. S. Bond, representing Mayor E. S. P rather, and by F. P. Rowley, of the Turner Tribune. Mrs. W. 8. Burgoyne sang a solo. Following the program Dr. Riley conducted a business meeting at which time the report of the nom inating committee appointed at a meeting held two weeks ago, was read andapj trove d and the nomi nees elected. They were: C. A, Bear, president; Arthur Edwards vice president; and Mrs, Mae B. Talbott, secretary. The meeting voted to af filiate with the Marlon county fed erated clubs. The next meeting is called for Monday, December 2, at the high school auditorium at which time the necessary committees will be appointed. At a previous meeting for purpose of organizing the community club, a nominating committee consisting of R. Lee Th lessen, chairman, Mrs. M. A. Hill, Mrs. Stanley Riches, and Mr. Fowler was appointed. The forming of a community club has long been the ambition of the resi dents of Turner and vicinity, and it la hoped that this will prove of great value in the civic ait am of the community. KILL KARE CLU3 EVENING ENJOYED independence A 7 o'clock no host dinner was served to the mem ben or the Kill Kara Klub on Fri day evening. In ttie social halls of the Methodist church by the mem bers of the Booster club. Following the dinner the club members adjourned to the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Walker. North Fifth street, where four tables of "500" were In play. The guest rooms of the Walker home were decorated with many baskets of chrysanthe mums, and other fall flowers. Hiprh score honors went to Mrs. W. H. Walker and E. N. Johnson. The next meeting will be at the country home of Mr. and Mr.s . N. John son. In the group were Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Swope, Mr. and Mrs. Georne Corbiay, Mr. and Mrs. James Rob bie, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Sloper, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cockle, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Mcintosh and Mr and Mrs. W. H. Walker. JEFFERSON TEACHERS FORM SOCIAL GROUP Jefferson Miss Bertha Dillon was heaters to the Thimble club recently organized by the teachers of the Jefferson school, at the home of Mr. ami Mrs. 8. R. Tandy. The time was spent in making Christmas presents and late in the evening refreshments were err ed by the hostess. Those present were Misses Con stance Bolderston, Elda Reese. Each delegate who was either a chancellor commander or a vice chancellor, was called upon to tell of the troubles In his order. Some of the delegates from the mast ac tive lodges would tell what made them so and give remedies for the inactive orders. The Silverton delegates, Eddie Kottek, chancel lor commander and Emll Loe, vice, stated that this was one of the best and most Interesting and in structive meetings they had ever attended and solutions for the bet terment of the local loose would be found as a result of this meet ing. Another meeting of this kind Is to be held In six months when there will be a set of new delegates, r , ., i, MEMBERSHIP GAIN IS SHOWN BY POST Dallas Carl B. Fenton, Poet No. 20, American Legion, met at tlieir club rooms in the Dallas armory Thursday. It was a stag meeting with a large attendance. Alter Use business, refrealiments were served. Lately the post has had a mem bership drive in force and the pres ent number this year is above the number of members at the same time last year. MEASURING PARTY HELD BY SOCIETY Jefferson A measuring party given under the auspice of the missionary society of the Chris tian church, was held In the church parlors. Invitations were sent out in verse form to friends and mem bers of the church together with a small sack In which they were to put five cent? of each foot they were tall and one cent of each Inch over. Reick entered his hogs In five different stock shows In California, where he won grand champion priz es. Others were won at the Salt Lake City, Utah show and the In ternational at Portland. WAREHOUSE BURNED AT DEVER STATION Jefferson A large warehouse be longing to the Orenon Electric rail way company at Dever, five miles west of Jefferson, burned to the ground Saturday evening about 7:30 o'clock. In It was stored 500 bushels of corn belonging to J. A. Jones and a large quantity of baled hops, owned by William Hoefer, The origin of the fire is unknown and was well under way before being discovered. The ,t warehouse being situated along -'eide the Q. E. track two or more trolly poles were burned. The nearby buildings Qit the J. A, Jones ranch were tiioujTht for a time to be In danger but fortunately the wind changed and they were saved. The warehouse and hops were par tially covered by insurance. AUTOMOBILE FIRM INCREASES ROOMS Dallas The RoM-Ruthrauff Ford agency has completed a 40x60 foot addition to tt?ir building increas ing the floor space one-third its former size. Constructed of concrete and tile, the addition te fireproof and will be used for servicing the new model Ford. Modern equipment will be installed shortly. CHURCH DEBT AIDED Wocdburn The women of Elliott Prairie will give a chicken supper on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock in the Elliott Prairie community hall. The proceeds will be used to pay off the electric bill on the church and hall. An Interesting program by home talent will follow the supper.
