This brought a vigorous reply from Pope Plus who denoun ced diffidences and distrust aimed against the Catholic organization for the young. It was remarked In Vatican cir cles that the present situation may result in postponing the visit of the Italian royal family to the Vatican, a long-awaited event which . had been destined to seal formally the reconciliation of the church and state. It was expected the Pope would again deal with the subject of Catholic associations during an audience which he will grant fiun day to 10,000 Italian Catholic work men. He may also dwell on the matter In an audience to be ac corded to 10,000 Italian professional men Monday. . , : SECOND ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE SUCCESSFUL - Astoria, (P) The Chinese laun dryman who attempted to end his life last fall by leaping Into the Columbia river when a "devil girl lured me to the river and pushed me in accomplished his obpective Thursday night by hanging himself in an Astoria Tong house. He was Len Nap. 60, who was found clinging to a piling in the Columbia river last fall. His body was found suspended from a rafter by countrymen. LOW WATER ALTERS ROAD WORK PLANS Dayton Because of the low stage of water In the Willamette river where the county gravel bunkers are located, near the George Jack man farm, gravel hauling to the new grading of the Dayton-Sal em market road In the Umonvale dis trict has bee nsuspended while a crew of men are moving the engine and equipment for washing the gravel to a temporary location.
