Hug, superintendent of Salem echols, will be back in his of fice next Monday morning after a three weeks' trip to Chicago, where he attended an annual confereence of the national association of sec ondary and higher education. En route home Hug has been visiting schools and educators in Des Moines, Denver, Salt Lake, and Omaha. His traveling companion on the route home has been the Colorado -super visors or nigh schools. Virginia Graham, daughter of Professor William Wallace Graham of Portland, will play an incidental solo at the Elslnore Thursday eve ning as a reature ox tno style snow which is being presented by Mrs. Mack. Miss Graham will play a vio lin obllgato for the vocal solo by Miss Marguerite McDonald and Mrs. Ruth Smith will play the piano ac companiment. At the same time a group of Mrs. Ralph White's girls will give dance numbers. They will aUo model Mrs. Mack's gowns. Mrs. Anna M. Tucker, 86, a resi dent of Salem for the past four years died late Wednesday afternoon In her home at 1045 North lGth street. Her son, Robert L. Tucker, who made his home with her, is the only surviving relative. Her hus hand, Abram B. Tucker, died sev eral years ago. The Tuckers came from Randolph, Nebr., in 1601 and settled at Jefterson. Mrs. Tucker was a member of the Eastern Star for 35 years. She was also a mem ber of the Unitarian church. Funer al services will bo held Friday after noon at 1 o'clock, at the Rigdon chapel with Rev. Forrey officiating. The body will be taken to the Port land crematorium for concluding services, Principal J. C. Nelson Thursday morning started compilation of tho list of seniors who will be graduated from Salem high school In June. According to his first preliminary list Mr. Nelson estimates that at least 270 will be graduated. Last year's senior class included only 256 boys and girls. Seniors at Salem high school are now wondering what to leave be hind thetn when they say "good by" In June. Each year the pro fits from the senior class play, aft er the expenses of a class picnic have been deducted, are used to purchaso a gift for the school. Dur ing the class meeting Thursday morning the gift matter was dis cussed but seniors pledged them selves to secrecy until It Is actually decided what the gift shall be. There are rumors, however, of a big bulle tin, board for the main hallway. There Is also some talk of adding more pictures. Last years the seni ors purchased a clock for the as sembly hall. The hundred Salem high school girls who hold letters for physical proficiency are beginning practice for a big exhibition In May. In this exhbltlon which will be open to the public, the girls will give clogging work, tap dancing, tumbling, ap paratus work, folk dancing and stunts. Mrs. LaVerne Lapham, teacher of physical education for elrls at Sa lem high school, announces that the games to decide the class bas ketball championship at the school will bo played off in less than a month. Delia Carter Is captain of the senior team, Claudino Gillespie of the junior teom. The sophomore captain nas not been named. Base' ball teams will be selected imme diately after the completion of the DasketDau scneduie. ' Young people will vote right when they get right," Dr. Landreth declared, speaking from a text "Whatsoever He sayeth unto you do It." The church of Jesus Christ cannot afford to play partisan pol itics for any candidate who stands lor anything opposing any one of the Ten Commandments. The meeting here was the last of a series Dr. Landreth has conduct ed during a five day tour of the state, t JENSEN BUYS INTO FLYING COMPANY With the purchase of Interests held by Lee Inman in the new cabin monoplane recently completed and designed by Lee Eyerly and also In man 's interest in the local agency for the monocoupe, Fred Jensen, who recently returned to Salem from California, becomes actively Iden tified with the Eyerly School of Aeronautics. Jensen is also inter ested in the expansion program that is unaer consideration. Jensen and his wife came to Sa lem from Kansas last summer and learned to fly under W. A. (Scout) Hazelwod at the airport here. He left for California In the fall where he continued his flying, adding 15 solo hours to his record. The young couple arrived shsrtly after the trial flight of the new monoplane and he was so Impressed that nego tiations tor an interest in the school were begun by he and his father, the deal being brought to a close Thursday. Inman was engaged In the plumb' lng business here for several years, being located in the Hollywood district. He disposed of his holdings lost fall and became identified with the Pacific Airplane Service in tho manufacture of the new ship. His plans for the future have not been determined but he may return to Silverton where he formerly had interests. TEXACO HOLDS OLD PRICE FOR GASOLINE HERE Portland (P Three service sta tions exhibited price signs Thurs day calculated to line motorists up at their pumps. The price was 10 cents. All about them were signs listing gasoline at 22 W cents, the "standard" price set by the Port land Retail Gasoline Dealers' Pro tective association. The three non-conformists sta tions are owned by tbe Texas com pany and leased to operators. Tex aco's decision to fall from the oil company ranks when the wholesale price was Jumped, makes It possible for these operators to make tbe reg ular six-cent margin. Officials of Texaco here said the company was not trying to hold its dealers to the.lowcr price level. The company was interested, they said, only in tank wagon sales. Texaco dealers in Salem were the only gasoline sellers that had not raised retail prices to 25 cents a gauon Tnursday. The Texaco sta tions are still selling for 18 cents. workWuilIng to start by may Members of the state board of control said Wednesday, after a conference with W. C. Knighton, Portland architect, that actual construction of the new state office building will probably start early in May. The exterior plans for the building were approved and the architect was Instructed to com plete the details so that the board may call for bids. Bids for the excavation will prob ably be advertised for. It was said. within the next three weeks and for the general construction in about six weeks. A six story center unit will con nect a new three story wins with the present supreme court building wnicn is also three stories high. The sudden death, early In the week, of little Jessie Eleanor, 17 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell E. Shlnn, was a shock not only to her parents but to a host of friends. Besides her parents the little girl Is survived by a younger brother, Lyle Keith. Jessie Eleanor was In good health until two hours berore her death which was caused by. convulsions. S. V. Raines was lined 175 In police court on tne same charge. Mrs, strong and Raines were ar rested Wednesday night by state and city officers at the Strong resi dence. Nine pint bottles of moon shine booze were found In the house, according to officers. Haines made the plea that be was merely a boarder at the Strong home, but decided to plead guilty to the charge, i- - An additional charge of main taining a nuisance has been filed against Mrs. Strong. Action In this case was continued. Officers state that persons living In the neighbor hood of the Strong home have com plained at various times regarding disturbances there. WILLAMETTE TEAM. The goal of 1000 delegates from out of town la ex pected to be reached shortly. Eight of the 16 districts of tbe state have already filled their quotas. They include Marehfield, Douglas, Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, Pendleton, Grande Ronde. Hills- boro and Bend. James Henderson, president. The boy or girl who presents the best oration will represent the school at the state oratorical contest on the O. A. O.' campus in April. The state contest is sponsored by Delta Sigma Dho fraternity and the Na tional Players' fraternity. Orations in competition will be on the sub ject of crime waves.
