Concluding services la the Portland Crematorium. work near the tipple were Injured. As the hours pasted, more miners arrived at Kinloch entry after com ing to the surface at the distant mouth known as the Valley Camp entry. At 11 a. ra. company officials said that between 140 and 150 men were known to have escaped. In trucks and on foot, small cav alcades of the fortunate came Into the little mining village of Kinloch where loved ones waited them in anxiety. Women and children, whose husbands, fathers and brothers yet were unaccounted lor questioned avidly those who came from the Valley Camp entry. Grave doubts were expressed for those near the Kinloch entry. So forceful was the blast, miners long familiar with explosions said, there could be no possibility that those near the main heading had escaped. After being held back by flames and smoke, rescue crews entered the Kinloch entry. Others were at the Valley Camp entry to go down Into the pit from that section. Two crews, one from the Union Collerles com pany, and another from the Inland Coal company went down the Kin loch opening. Rescue workers said there was gravo danger from gus and afterdamp. Windows In the little mining vil lage were shattered and the force of the explosion was felt over a wido area. The main tipple, constructed of sheet steel, steel beams and heavy timbers was reduced to debris. The force of the blast at the pit mouth twisted huge girders like bits of wood, hurled mine car from the slope and Into the shattered tipple, and virtually tied knots in the rati over which the mine cars ran,
