OREGON PAGE FIVE County Federation Meeting Wednesday Nineteen federated women's clubs In Marion county will hold their an nual spring meeting next Wednes day in the Willard church, two miles directly east of Pratum, when the Willard Woman's club will be hos tess. An interesting program will be climaxed in the election of officers. Delegates will register from 9:30 to 10 o'clock Wednesday morning and luncheon will be served prompt ly at noon at the J. C. Currie home. Dr. Norman Kendall Tully will be the principal speaker during the af ternoon session. Each of the following clubs will be entitled to five official delegates In the convention body next Wed nesday; Salem Woman's club, Sa lem Heights community club, Etokta club of Salem, Woodburn Woman's club. Silverton Woman's club, Wil lard Woman's club. Stayton Civic Improvement club, Walluga Wom an's club of Sublimity, Aumsville Woman's club, Jefferson Woman's club. Liberty Woman's club, An keny Woman's club, Talbot ladies' club, Aurora Woman's club, Wood burn Rural club, Hubbard Woman's club, Waldo Hills Woman's club. Mill City Woman's club, and Hollow Bee Hive club of the Stayton dis trict. Miss Mattie Beatty, president of the county federation, will preside during the sessions. Salem Musicians In Portland Recital Portland A delightful program Which was given at the musicale for which Mr. and Mrs. William Wallace Graham were hosts Wednesday eve ning at their home on Holly street. Miss Charlotte Nash, young Port land violinist, played the Mozart concerto in A major; Miss Mildred Roberts of Salem played the Max Bruch concerto, and the Bach "Chaconne'' with the Schumann ac companiment, was given by Mary Talmadge Headrick of Salcrn. J. Hutchison played accompaniments for the young soloists, all of whom are advanced violin students of Mr. Graham. An Informal reception followed the program. Presiding at the supper table were Mrs. T. A. Llvesley, wife cf Mayor Livesley of Salem, and Mrs,. John J. Roberts of Salem, who poured, and Mrs. E. J. Blazier and Mrs. M. C. Carlock, who cut ices. Mrs. M. J. Champion was in charge of the dining room. Several of the younger girls assisted in serving. The musicale was attended by a number of society and musical folk. An evangelistic program was given at the meeting of the Salem W. C. T. U. In the union rooms on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. J. S. Mul-; Jigan of Leslie M. E. church led the devotionais and gave a talk on "Be ing a Christian." Mrs. Pitts, Mrs. R. Burkheimer, and Mrs. Charlton of fered praver and Mrs, Trindlo read a chapter of the Bible. Mrs. Ben jamin Blatchford brought a lesson m "tithing," A mwwuure on Sunday observance was brought by Mrs. George Thompson. Mrs. J. J. Nunn, president of the Balem W. C. T. U announced that the next meeting, Tuesday, May 1, will be a good citizenship meeting. The names of Mrs. H. P. Shank and Mrs. Rachel Reader will be for warded to the Union Signal for pub lication. Both secured ten new members. Mrs. Fritz Slade Club Hostess Mrs. Fritz Slade entertained members of her bridge club and a number of special guests at cards and tea In her home yesterday. In the special guest group were Mrs. Asahel Bush, Mrs. James Ltnn, Mrs. John H. Carson, Mrs. W. H. Dancy. Mrs. A. B. Galloway. Mrs. W. H. Lytle, Mrs. David Bennett Hill and Mrs William Boot. Dancy. - Miss Golda Wheeler entertained members of the Hob Nob bridge club in her home Thursday evening. Members present included the Misses Thelma Mesch. Gwendolyn Jenninss. Louise Heller, Anne Mcthtyre, Velma Romlnger, Gladys McKey, Helen Hiller, and the hostess, Golda Wheeler. Special guests were Mrs. Sophia Wheeler and Miss Stella Wheeler. The first price for high score at cards was won by Miss Velma Romlnger and second went to Miss Loiuse Hiller. County Meet on April 25 All of the unions In Marion coun ty will be represented at the annual spring convention of the county W. C. T. U. which will be held at the Highland Friends church on Wed nesday, April 25. Downing were hostesses for one of the loveliest affairs given for Mrs. R. B. Houston, of Santa Rosa. Cali fornia, when they entertained at tea in the Minto home on Wednes day afternoon. The affair was planned as a "get-acquainted party for the club mem ber's -wives. Salem's Leading Department Store Interest in Music Week Increasing Interest is growing In programs for national good music week from May 6 to 13, not only in Salem but in the towns and communities sur rounding Salem. Among the towns planning musio week programs on a large scale are Silverton, Stayton, Woodburn, Independence, Mon mouth, and Dallas. Under the direction of Mrs. S. M. Endicott, general chairman of the institutions department of the Salem Woman's club, special pro grams will be given during music week at a number of the state in stitutions. Including the tuberculosis hospital, the girls' industrial school and the boys' training school. Special emphasis is being given this year to an "At Home" day dur ing music week when iamuies are asked to use all available facilities. radios, vlctrolas. and young stu dents, for special programs. The climax of the week will be given in the armory on Saturday evening. More than 300 children and grown-ups will take part. The outstanding concert will be given on Tuesday evening, May 8, when the Salem MacDowell chorus will sing Deems Taylors, "The High wayman," at the Capitol theater. Soehren. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Soehren became the bride of Pres ton B. Grubbe at a wedding at the home of the bride's parents on Main street, on Friday morning. The home was beautifully decor ated with tulips and apple blos soms. The ceremony was held at 9:00 o'clock with Rev. B. J. Kimber of the Presbyterian church officiat ing. Following the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a wedding breakfast. The wedding march was played by Mrs. Virginia Ellis Wilson. "Fishing licenses" were issued for Invitations and the fishing idea; sug gestive of late Apm, was used throughout. Two girls, attired as fishing maids. Misses Caryol Braden and Louise Quinn, presided at the punch bowl. A clever leaiure dance was given by eight high school girls, Georgia Mills, Esther Arnold, Louise McDougall. After their dance the girls distributed, from their fish baskets, toy fish which were matched to secure partners for the next dance. Another feature was a balloon dance A toy balloon was fastened to each girl's ankle and the dance started. A prize was given to the couple which kept their balloon intact for the long est time.
