COUNTY GRANGE
PROGRAM GIVEN
IN TURNER HALL
, Turner. April 21. The Marlon
County Pomona Orange was enter
tained by the Turner Surprise
Orange at the I. O. O. F. building
here with a large delegation In at
tendance, approximately 100 visitors
were present, Including visitors from
Polk county.
A dinner was enjoyed by everyone
at the noon hour, under the man
agement ol Mrs. Hester Crume with
several women assisting In serving
the guests. Following the dinner an
Interesting and Instruc tive program
was given Including a vocal solo by
Harold Wltcraf t; Mr. Bunn of Salem
delighted the audience with several
humorous readings; thj boy'a and
girls' chorus of Turner high school
each rendered a musical selection
and the high school glee club gave
a vocal number, asssited by Mrs.
Jean Pcarcy, glee club Instructor.
During the lecturer's hour, a
speaker from O. A. C. gave an in
teresting talk on "Public Ownership
of Text Books." The program was
read by Mr. Bowers, lecturer of the
Pomona Orange. Most of the county
officers of Pomona Grange were
present for the day, tncV.lng W. A.
Jones of Macleay, master of the or
der; Mrs. O. W. Parrls, of Turner,
chaplain, and Mr. and Mrs. M. E.
Townsend, assistant steward and
lady assistant steward of Pomona
Orange.
The Pomona Orange meets every
three months with a visiting grange,
and the next gathering will be at
Macleay. The date will be In June,
In preference to July as the mem
bers are too busy at that time of
year to attend. The day with Tur
ner Surprise Grange was most en
joyable and Intellectual. The Sur
prise Grange was organized In Tur
ner more than 60 jears ago and Is
proud of being distinguished as one
of the oldest grange orders in the
state.
LINCOLN CLUB TO
ELECT OFFICERS
Lincoln, Or., Apr. 21. A roll call
program and probably election of
next year's officers will be held at
the last meeting of the Lincoln com
munity club, according to plans
made at a meeting of some of the
members of the club at the school
house.
A hot supper will be served be
tween 7 and 7:30 o'clock, each fam
ily bringing enough for themselves
and a mule extra, and it is hoped
that a large percentage of the club
members will be present. Hot cof
fee will be prepared at the school
house. A small charge of five cents
will be made against any members
who appear without a contribution
lor the program.
