Company I had Its largest drill attendance Tuesday at their regular meeting that they have had in many months 47 men reporting. Two new re cruits were taken In during the evening. First Lieutenant Ijavn port was put In charge of the re cruiting campaign from now until the fiist of March. Ntate champions of laat year, lost night defeated the Woodhurn hlicb school aggregation tl to 11. Despite the one-sided appearance of the score, the g.ime was fast and Interesting. Woodhurn was outclassed com pletely, but put up a game battle against the much larger squad from Salem. Lyons of Salem was hlnh point man for his team, with 17 points scored, while Uomhoff of Woodhurn ran up a total of 11 markers for hitch point honors. A feature of the game was the grt..: long distance shooting of Uomhoff, who dropped In four long ones from the center of the floor. .HMein's team work was remarko iihle, with tha shooting done by Duffy nnd Lyons causing much comment. Hugh Mathews of Gates, using a seven tube radio set turned in and listen ed to a concert of music from Honolulu, Saturday night, the re ception being very good. The card party and tea given by the Silver ton Woman's club Thursday after noon In the Knights of Pythias hall was a success, both socially and financially. The net proceeds, mor than $55, will go to the scholarship loan fund. The ladle donated their work and time, the Knights their hall, seven of the Sllverton mer chants the prizes, Mr. Luklna the candles and made decorations and potted plants and flowers for the hall and dining room Ralph Adams of the Sllverton greenhouse. News of '.he death of Mary Jane Hicks at Junction City la received here, where she Is well known, having spent the past five years at the home of Miss Ella Finney of Wa conda. Suffering from a stroke of paralysis. Miss Hicks was seriously ill when she was removed to her old home at Junction City In Octo ber. She was 74 years of aire and was born In Canada, She was married to a miinster, but later hesumed her maiden name of Hicks. She died Monday and was burled Thursday. She Is survived by several nephews in the eaat and one. Dr. W. W. Hicks, a dentist of Junction City. Mus Hicks left a valuable farm of .several hnudred acres In Lane county. About eight inches of heavy wet snow is reported at Detroit, while the hllU surrounding Mill City have received a heavy fall during the past 48 hours. About one Inch fell at Mill City but subsequent rains melted most of It.
