Apparel
Wars may rage, emperors may
looso their thrones, the whole
world may bo turned topsy .turvey,
but the seasonal changes in tern
Inno apparel like the tides of the
ocean must go on forever.
The cold tingle of the fall days
checks our summer laxness, and
the first thing brought to our mind
Is the need of new- cloth us, It Is
a most natural thing to start first
with dresses. For street and after
noon wear, there nre the tailored
and simply trimmed 'dresses of
light weight cloth, moire, and sa
tin. They arc made In coat effects,
bloused back, stralghtline and a
few flared bottom models. They
are trimmed with crepe or satin
collars nnd cuffs, plain or metal
braiding, soutache embroidery, and
narrow mclal belts.
IJlii ck Moire Smart
One pnrtlcularly smart coat dress
was made of blaqk molro, had
modified blouse effect on sides and
back, with a strnlghtlino front. The
shawl collar and long sleeves were
trimmed with flesh colored satin
Crepe satin and moke are very
strong and the colors most popu
lar aro Vendome blue, Valencia
red, Chanel red, fern green, pine
green, all the wood shades and
black. Dresses are being made
about two inches longer.
The dresses for,evonlng and din
ner show a decided tendency to
ward longer skirts. The bouffant
model with its tight bodico being
tho favorite. Those dresses nre
mude of moire, satin, or taffeta,
trimmed with embroidery, metallic
laces and ribbon sashes.
There nrealso two-plccc models
with the tunic sllhouete, made of
romaln crepe, chiffon or metallic
cloths. These are sleeveless, and
aro cut low, with "V" or round
necklines. Embroidery, strasa trim
mings and beads aro the only trim
mings used. A few lace dresses are
also shown for evening. Ivory
while, geranium red, sapphire
blue, flesh pink, and black are the;
leading colprs.
Suits in the Background
Suits will not play the proml-,
nent part that they did during the
spring and summer. Those that are
shown are made of wool plaids,
tweeds and suede finished fabrics.
Without exception, they Imvo the
sovon-olghths length coats, made
in stralghtline or bloused back
models. The skirts of the two piece
suits are pleated In front or wrap
around models.
The skirts of the three-piece
suits have bloused tops, or sating
or self material, with long sleeves
and button up to the neck collars.
A suit made of a dark green suede
cloth stood out above the others.
It had a straight wrap around the
skirt, seven-eighths length coat,
the back of which was bloused and
slight shirrlngs at the side back.
The front was straight. It had a
high choker collar, deep. cuffs, and
back of the coat of leopard fur.
Plaids, In many color combina
tions, are the most popular for
suits, however, reds, greens and
wood shades in solid colors are
used a great deal. Suits are trim
med with kit fox, caracul, krlm
mer, wolf and leopard.

One brown and plalded fabric
coat had a full length tuxedo col

Gray Suede Fabrlo Liked
A very smart coat made of gray

The sleeves and lower part of
the front and back of the garment
were embroidered In a darker
shade of gray. The coat was topped
with a large gray fox collar.

models in reversible coats. These
are made on the tubular lines, of
flat pelt furs and wool fabrics. The
outstanding colors for afternoon
wraps are Chanel rouge, willow
green, shell bark tan, Jap Ivy,
brown and black.
Other Fabrics, New and Smart
There Is a fine wool velours,
very soft and velvety In appear
ance that lends itself beautifully to
the Interpretation of the more for
mal winter coats. It is particularly
lovely In the wine reds, deep nut
brown tones and the grayish
greens so much in favor. Many of
the new novelty weaves ha?
rough heavy aspect with knotted
or nubbed surface theso aro es
pecially well adapted to use In
sports coats.
There are also canvas weaves
some In a tapestry effect taht Is
very striking, There are fabrics
that have their inspiration in the
primitive weaves of north Africa.
They have an irregular texture and
are woven In wide bands of differ
ent colors in an effect of hand
weaving.
Reps, too, are smart, and they,
too, have this Irregular service,
caused by the threads of different
sizes. Ribbed woolens with big
velvety ribs are stunning for tail
