Miller succeeded In getting his name In a magazine In which he appealed for sisterly sympathy from young women as a reult he was also flooded with letters from various parts of tho country from young gir's with sympathy to paw around. FOR DELINQUENCY The necessity of consistent ad vertising was stressed by Wm. Paulus, vice president of the Sa lem Ad club at Its weekly lunch eon today. You have heard of many doc tors, lawyers, mere Haute and ath letes who make a grand splash and then suddenly fade from view 'It is the same with every mer chant who does not rigidly main tain a policy for truthful adver tising and dependable merchan dise. Many merchants make a big splash during their opening days, but it is not until they have run the cycle ot a few years that the real test haa been made. "It is said that merchandise well bought is T.alt sold. This might nave prevailed in the olueu days but it is my opinion that it is the merchandise that Is Will advertis ed that is sold. Without adver tising the modern merchant would be like a ship without a rudder. "Nowhere haa the spirit of leadership shown Itself ns It has In the mercantile way. The larx- or stores throughout the country maintain offices In many differ ent parts or the world so that they may be close to tho market and keep abreast of the new things. By extenslvo advertising these stores keep competition key ed up to the last word. "The time has passed when a merchant can buy its merchan dise or do Us advertising spasmod ically. So many new things arc coming out every day that it Is necessary to make overy da a merchandise day, and nlso neces sary for every advertising man to keep abreast of the merchandise.
