United States Attorney Buckner Is anxious to learn tlie Inland distri bution system of the huge rum smuggling syndicate he believed has been smashed with tho arrest of 21 men Thursday. The arrest of William Dwyer, widely known sportsman and race track owner, and 20 other men, Mr. Buskner feels has disposed of the Atlantic seaboard operations of the alleged ring, but today he turned his attention to the disposal of liquor after it was landed. This confession Is to be read to the grand jury Monday, with the ex ception that more indictments and arrests will follow. Korty three In dictments have been Issued already and 21 of them served. Ho said an unnamed pa trol boat went out to a rum schoo ner and brought ashore 300 coach in one Instance. The boatswain got $1,000 and each member of the crew $240 for this job, ho added. QUARANTINE Washington, Dec. 7. (A. P.) A hearing on the question of a pine quarantine against Oregon because of the appearance of the white pine blister rust in that state will be held in the offices of the federal horticultural board January 8. It la proposed to prohibit the movement from Oregon into other states of all five leaved pi nee and currant and gooseberry plants, the latter being the intermediate host plant necessary in carrying the disease from one pine tree to another. The blister rust has been discov red in Tillamook and Clatsop counties, Oregon, which brings the infection within 175 miles of the northern edge of the sugar pine forests of southern Oregon And northern California. Tho Salem high school football team lost to the Medford high school, 10 to 13, Saturday after noon, at Medford, and thereby lost tho logical claim to the Western Oregon In tot scholastic title. The game was fiercely fought with the winner in doubt until the final whistle. Salem outweighed the Medford eleven and It was speed against brawn, with speed winning out In the end. The winning touchdown came in the last quarter. Lyons, Salem, full back, fumbled tho ball and Med. ford recovered on tho 30-yard line. Medford bucked (he ball for a first down and Dunn was substituted for Herriott at quarter. Dunn went through right tackle for a yard. On the next piny, with eight yards to go, he threw a beautiful pass to Singer behind the goal line for tde finnl and wrnning touchdown. Con rad kicked the extra point. (10 Yard Run Vain Tho Salem team kicked off to Dunn in the finnl quarter on the Medford 30-yard line. On the next play Moore raced 60 yards before ho was downed. Salem held them for downs and the red and black eleven took tho ball. In desperaton the locals tr4 an aerial attack for short gains when a pass was Intercepted. Conrad carried the ball around right end for 12 yards. On tho next play Senn made 30 yards, being forced out of bounds. With five minutes of play left, Medford started ripping the Salem left side of the line and when the final gun ended the game the ball was on the Salem eight yard line. The crowd swept out and carried the Medford players from tho field. Every member of the Salem team walked from the field weeping. Ono of tho largest crowds to hear a football game this season stood in front of The Capital Jour nal to hear the results as they came in by quarters. Not one of the funs who heard tho final results left with his head in the air. Salem Knds Circled The Salem eleven showed a pow erful lino from tackle to tackle but Medford found the ends weak lifter tho first quarter. A. Lyons and Kncikc played 'the best game for the locals. The Salem team won tho toss. and kicked off to the Medford 20- yard line, returning to the center of the field. After three attempts to buck center, Medford kicked to the center of the field. Med. ford intercepted a Salem forward pass. Salem held Medford for downs and when forced to punt the kick by Senn was blocked and Kel ly raced for a touchdown. Temple failed to convert. Medford received and on the first play Moores made IS yards around left end. Salem was penalized ten yards for stall ing. Senn made first down. On the next play Conrad took tho ball to the three-yard line nnd Senn pung- ed -through right tackle for a touch down. Conrad failed to - kick the extra point. On the first play In the final quarter, Lyons In a tackle buck fumbled and Neff of Medford re covered. Medford made eight yards on off.tackle plays but was po'nal iucd five yards when Hughes mov ed the ball. Medford made first down. Medford first down and elev en yards to go. Dunn was substi tuted for Herriott at quarter. Then came the pass for the winning touchdown of the game. Snlem Line Weak Medford kicked off to the Salem 25-yard Hut. The red and black oleveu made 20 yards on two short passes. Neff broke through and tdrew Drager for a nine yard loss. Hubbard broke through and flop ped Lyons for a five yard loss.
