"Under the joint auspices of the United States bureau of education, the American Legion, and the Na tional Kducallon association," says the foreword to tho program, writ ten by Mr. Churchill, "every state In the union will celebrate the week of November 10-23 as American edm-.'ition week. "The state department of educa tion for oivscn is, therefore, ask ing the school teachers of this stato to secure the cooperation of tho representatives of the Ameri can Legion nnd of tho Oregon Stato Teachers association In car rying out a program in their res pective communities that will bring about n more Intensive interest in the work of the public schools. "The national authorities have assigned n special topic for each day, nnd their suggestion has been followed In the preparation of this pamphlet. It is expected, however, that in the rural schools each teach er will use her own initiative, and In the larger systems the superin tendent will appoint a committee representing the cooperative Inter ests, and that this program will simply act as a helpful guide in arranging for an effective observ uicq of American education week. "Many of our cities have from one to three service clubs, which meet weekly on different days as well as the regular meeting of the chamber of commerce. They nlsp have the Parent-Teacher associa tion and various women's clubs. The story particularly deals with the love of a hoy and a girl and tho mean machinations of a jealous, unsuccessful rlvalfor the girl's hand. He Is a religious fanatic who be lieves himself to be an agent nf tlol, put on earth to spread fnr and wide his will. Thus deluding him.st.-lf, lie determines to get rid of tho boy for whom the girl has east aside his attentions. This he attempts to accomplish by getting the girl's brother drunk and fill ing him with tales about his rival, but before the final curtain no is exposed and driven out and is hard put to get away with his own life. Miss Anne Berryman will carry the role of Jude Lowry, the girl for whom the fight is waged. Andry Lowry, Judo's brother, will be por trayed by Kirke M Decker. Cecil Drummond will be Sid Hunt, the hero, and Alvin Baird will he his brother, Mott Hunt. William Brewer and Fanchon Kverhart will have important roles as other members of the Hunt family.
