IMMODEST DRESS IS CONDEMNED BY JEWS New York, Oct. 27. A. P.) Immodesty in dress, especially on the part of women attending the eynagogue, was condemned ill a resolution passed by the Union of Orthodox Jewish congregations at th final eessiun of the convention of the Jcwifii center yeBterdav. The stand of the Homan Cntholic church in barring scantily clad from church also was praised. The resolution described the convention asjooking "with dis favor upon the laxity of conduct so ereatly nrevalont at present and particularly the manner of attire at presont customary among ihc female sex which cannot he con aidered decent and modest. We urgo the daughters of Israel clothe themselves with proper modesty." Sacramento, Cal. To tho Editor: "Auto-De-F i," this subject of your editorial in your issue of October 14 assumes that the Episcopal church in gan cral convention assembled woull burn at the stake and enter in'o persecution of all who do not hi'. lleve as taught by it. You use tae case of Bishop William M. Brown as an illustration of this supposi tion on your part. Let me siy that as a rule members of tu j Episcopal church arc not near as prejudiced as are some who aro atheistic. I Your editorial on the above sub-1 jeet is misleading and unjuil Bishop Brown has not been perse cuted and would not have bsen prosecuted if he had not sought anl forced it himself. He soucnt the publicity for many years and forced action. His deposition wug not because of hie beliefs but be cause he had violated the very vows that made him a bishop. I submit that one should be holiest, especially as an officer of Un church. And Bishop Brown should been honest enough to' have re signed himself. He eeeniod to do sire the' newspaper publicity, and I hear that the sale of lib book has increased. Summer Street, Salem, Oregon on-j must conclude that what mos1 newspapers reporters know about ecclesiastical afffairs is not much. I wonder why the good things that we are doing here are not mention ed in the western newspapers but always the sensational readlinec. But what I wane most Is to pie id for exact honesty and sincerity, and the case of Bishop Brown can not be used to Illustrate honesty and some doubt his sincerity. H. D. CHAMBKItS. NGROWN Turns Right Out Itself "Outgro" Is a harmless antisep tic manufactured for chiropodists. However, anyone can buy from the drug store a tiny bottle con taining directions. A few drops of "Outgro" In the erevlce of the Ingrowing nail re duces inflammation and pain and so toughens the tender, sensitive skin underneath the toe nail, that It can not penetrate the flesh, and the nail turns naturally outward almost over night. Adv. Newark, N. J Oct. 27 (AP) Harry Wills today had a quick but Indecisive one round heavyweight victory over Floyd Johnson to his credit. While ten thousand spectators In the First regiment armory yelled "fake," a towel waa flung un expect edly from the corner of the boxer who bad been heralded before the match as the "Iowa bulldog" what was to have been a 12 round, no decision event ended two minutes and two seconds after the opening of the first round last night. Johnson appeared to the specta tors to be far from out when the towel fluttered. He was on his feet and had not ben knocked down. After tho match, a physician representing the state boxing com mission, examiner Johnson and de clared he was fit. 'I was punk-drunk," said John son. Wills entered the ring weighing 215 pounds, 12 pounds more than his opponent. The negro Immedi ately carried the fight to his op ponent, sinking a left to the stom ach and then bringing the same hand up to tho head. A right hand wallop to the head then drove Johnson to the ropes. He had his hands up In defense when the towel was flung.
