With the administration's tax re
duction proposal as a darting
point, the house ways and means
committee today listened to ad
vice ot various organizations of
citizens on many disputed fea
tures ot the tax legislation that Is
to be presented at the next ses
sion of congress.
The National Association of
Manufacturers, tho Retailers Na
tional Council, the Texas Tax
club, the New York Board of
Trade and the Real Estate Board
of New York, all wero allotted
time to present their views at to
day's committee session.
Passing over tor the moment
Secretary Mellon's suggestion for
a reduction of Income taxes all
along the line, the committeemen
first heard representatives of the
Texas tax clubs endorse the sec
retary's proposal for repeal of the
federal Inheritance or estate tax.
Speaking for a delegation of
18, Lee Satterwhie of Amarlllo,
speaker of the Texas house, said
the state ot Texas lolt It should
have sole Jurisdiction over Inher
itance taxeB within its borders.
Texas not only needs that source
ot revenue, he said, but the pres-
. ent federal inheritance tax lev
ies Is proving almost confiscatory.
UMPQUA JETTY TO
BE EXTENDED BY U. S.

The engineering corps of the
United Statea army has decided to
extend the Jotty the mouth of the
Umpqua river in Oregon so that
the flow ot water in that stream
will scour away the sand bar Im
peding navigation at that point.
An allotment of $04,000 for this
project was authorized today from
existing river and harbor improve
ment funds.

Many former subjects of the em
peror of Russia came to Seattle to
day for the marriage here tonight
of Princess Marina Gollzen to Bo
ris Kukserhof f, University of
Washington sophomore, former im
perial army officer and the prin
cess' childhood playmate. The
ceremony was to be conducted by
Rev. Father Nicholas Metropolsky
with all the old ritual of the Rus-
slon orthodox faith.
Many coming for the wedding
were men who, In Seattle and ad
joining cities, are known to fellow
workmen as Nick or Pete, but who..
in the day ol the czar, were among
the highest officials, professional
and military men of the old re
gime.
Although the bride and bride
groom have been in America less
than three years both speak Eng
lish perfectly. For two years the
princess has been a sates girl In a
downtown department store here.

tors for the advance regained con
trol of the price movements In to
day's stock market by bidding up
successfully the rail, motor, oil
and equipment shares. There was
a marked cessation of the hear
selling pressure which had char
acterized the wild market of the
previous three daye, and trad In
was again back on a normal basis.

afternoon and went through
light workout last night. Ernie
Woodward of Portland, who ie to
meet him in the main event, will
arrive in fine ehape some time this
afternoon.
