IB A very pleasant social affair took place Tuesday evening In the Methodist Episcopal church at which the churches of Woodburn united In giving a reception for the public school tenchora. , The reception room was brightened by vivid au tumn leaves and late rosea present ed a most enjoyable as parents and townspeople paused down the re ception line meeting the faculty members, new and old. Director W. P. Norman spoke for the board of education in welcom ing the guests and asked from the parents fullest co-operation in fur thering the complete education of their children. A delightful pro gram of mufiic both instrumental and vocnl followed. Mla Lesua Shaver played liucia L'Lammer raoor and In encore gavo a modern selection. Then followed a vocal solo by Mrs. John T; Myers, a read ing by Mra. Cecil Eapcy; vocal duet "Gay Butterflies,' by the Mlase.s Violet ond Lillian Olson; vocal solo "Itoses" by Miss Marvel La rue n and piano solo by Miss Wllma Morrison. All entertainers respond ed graciously to encore. Director A. E. Austin who pre sided they announced refreshments served by tho Indies of the united churches. In the social hour that followed, teachers and patrons be came better acquainted and all agreed that the reception had been most delightful. GERVA1S The Gervals high school football team played a game with Silverton high school at the Silver Falls grid Iron on l'rlday afternoon, October fl. It contains 88,115,000 feet of timber accord inn to Fred J. Holman, county as sessor, and was assessed on the rolls at 44.410. The land includes parts of sec tions 4 and 6 and all of sections 8 and 10 in township 9 south, range 7 west and is In tho Immediate cutting area now being logged by Spauldlng over tho Valley & Slleti line. The deal has been under ne gotiation for some time and Is thought to have been practically closed for over a year as bpauia- ing has acted as agent for Weyer haueser and cared for the taxes unon It In 1924 and 1926. The saie disposes of approxi mately one-third ot the Weyer- haueser holdings in Polk county and leaves the balance well con solidated. It lies In township 7 south, ranse 8 west and Is In the northwestern rart of Polk county adjoining the Willamette Valley Lumber company holdings, which are being taken out over the Black Ruck Hue and the Miamt Corpora lion holdings which will be milled at New Grand Konde. It is prob able that this too will be sold within due course of time to one or the othor of tho concerns oper ating ndjacent to it. Wcyerhauo sor owns approximately one-fourth ot township 7-8.
