day night for information about
the partition which a law demands

be enforced at Silvcrton. No ob
jection was raised Monday night
by the pool hall men. Thoy ap
peared before the council merely
lor purposes of information.
Tho West Main street paving

iug of the Pacific highway grade-
between Oregon City and Canemah
started Monday morning when the
Oregon Contract company put a
crew or men to work laying pipe
line and attending to other Initial
details at the Canemah end, says
the Oregon City Enterprise. To
day tr,e work of scarifying will
begin preparatory to the placing o;
tho cement. The highway will
remain epen to traffic for aome
time yet as it Is the plan to pave
one-haif of the grade at a time and
the work wilt start on the bluff
side of the highway und continue
to a point near the tpo of the
grade.
One way traffic will be routed
through and the construction
company will place flagmen, at
either ends as the work progresses
to direct the motorists bo that
there wilt be n difficulty on the
grade. When the cement is com
pletcd to the ton of the grade or
to the point where it is planned
to begin putting down concrete
curbs and sidewalk toward Ore
gon Citv the work will be taken
back to the Canemah end of the
grade and the other half of the
concrete put down. When this
part or too construction Is reach
ed it will he necessary for motor
ists southbound to leave the high
way at Ihe end of the completed
str'p of pavement and detour to
Hj;:u street thence to the old South
F.nd road which comes out at New
I'Jra and uorth bound motorists

Era and como into Oregon City
over the old South End road and
Ilih street. Aa the paving opera
tions progress and tho hard sur
face is completed even with the
first strip t he construction com
pany will begia the paving of the
side of the highway next to the
railroad tracks leading towards
Oregon City. When this Is com
pleted and the work started on th'-
ecottd strip motorists will he
forced 'o dolour up Singer hill and
low n Hif-.h street to the old South

be barricaded at Fifth street. It
is est I mated that this condition
