A report was made ot the excellent showing made by the fair commit tecs an pointed by the commercial, both in handling the local community fair and in the special exhibit made at the Polk county fair, and was accepted by the council and a vote ot thanks was extended to the commute - and others assisting them. The city appropriated $20 toward the expense Incurred tho local fair and in taking the exhibit to Dallas. City Treasurer II. M. Smith made a gilt ot J25 his salary as treasurer, for the same purpose, and tho auditor was instructed to draw the warrants nccurdingly. SLLVimTON - Silverton, Or., Sept. 20. (Spe cial.) The Fischer flouring mill has installed two new flour ma chines by which the mill can put out 300 barrela ot Hour against 250 barrels per day with the old machines, rue oiu mac nines were sold to a San Francisco company. Mr, and Mrs, L. H. Meyer have received word from their nephew, Alvert Moberg. who is on the bat tleship Seattle which bailed early in the year for Australia. Mr. Moberg writer that ho enjoyed hit: two months' etay In Australia very much. He found the people very fine hosts and seemingly very glad to riee Americans. From Australia tho shin sailed for the Hawaiian islands, where Uiey assisted in the Bcarch for tho lost fliers. Besides these a'ddl tlons comfort stations, a tennis court, which is nlao used for danc- ilK and roller skatlnir, a children's wilding pool aro among the other improvements added during the past year. The new plans call for the planting of 1378 shrubs ot vari ous kinds, the erection of a new speaker's and bandstand, a side hill sealing arrangement and n number of scenic walks and bypaths. Muck left Monday for New Grand Ronde where he will have charge of this store. OBITUARY Ellen Carrie Hardy was born to William M. Hardy and Helen Will lams Hardy, November 21, 1923, at the home of Mrs. Hardy's foster sister, Mrfl. Mabel Williams Cady, near Salem. Her short life was spent in Salem. She died at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. M. Hardy, 2130 Maple avenue, on September 24, 1925, at 2:15 p. m., at the age of 1 year, 10 months and 3 days. She loaves besides her parents, one sister, Wllma, age 5 years, and her grandprrents, Mr. nnd Mrs. Charles M. Hardy, and two aunts, Mrs. Florence Hardy Van dcrhoot and Mrs. Edith Hardy Lotu. The funeral services were held this afternoon ot 2 p. m. from the Highland Friends church on High land nvenuo by the pastor, Edgar P. HEALTH PROGRAM FOR SILVERTON PLANNED Silverton. Sept. 26 A health program Is being outlined at Sil verton for the coming winter. Dur ing the past years much duplicat ed work has been done In this line and It Is now the desire of the various civic organizations to com bine in such a manner that the work may be taken care of In more unified way to do away with much waste of time and effort, With this in view the heads of the various civic organizations of Silverton held a meeting this week to discuss ways and means of com binlng for the purpose of backing the Marlon county health program for this community. A local program will also be car ried out. A committee composed of Rob ert E. Goetz, superintendent of Sil verton schools, Clifford Rue, presi dent of the Delbert Reeves post of the American Legion, and Seth Bebe, has been chosen to call an other meeting and arrange for the election of an executive body to head the new federation.
