the upward trend and litis factor
along with the lipht receipts of
fresh stocks helped maintain the
local market in a stronji position.
Butter firm and higher. Cuhcs
advanced briskly during yesterday's
uesslon of the dairy exchange. Ex
tras closed a cent higher at 62
cents. Standards and prime first
advanced a half cent at 61 Vi and
60 cents respectively. The local
butter market la in a very strong
position. Advances in prints are
expected by the trade but no
change had been announced by lo
cal creamerymen at a late hour to
day. The local hop market la now
well established at the 26 cent lev
el. Bales of 200 bales 'were made
yesterday ut that figure mid other
uales repot ted as high as 20
cents. The market Is very firm
and remaining stocks in strong
hands. Huyera are having a hard
time Interesting holders even at
the new levels.
Declines In hog prices at the
yards Is having a weakening effect
on country dressed pork. While not
enough pnrk has come during the
last two days to actually test I lie
market, buyers along Front street
are unwilling to go over 17 cent
for tops. Choice light veal hold
ing at 17 cents.

The hop market has jumped up
to 26 cents, with sales being report
ed at that figure, one 800 bale lot
near Dallas said to have been sold
and William Bell also has sold a
block at that price.
Growers are still holding tight,
even at tnese prices, ami vvniie

WALL STREET
OF LARGE SIZES
Ilosohurg, Sept. 17 The Italian
prune crop being harvested in
IJougl.ts county this year is unusual
in many respects. In the first
place small sizes are not to be
found. Packers and others Inter
ested In the harvesting of the crop
state that by far the hulk of the
prunes will run 40 or better. Orch
ard runs are found to bo almost
straight 30-40h, a condition which
is unite unusual. Although petites
are smaller in size, yet they too
arc running nigh and are excellent
in quality.
Another noticeable fact concern
ing the Italians, is that they are
lacking In "bite" and have an un
usually high sugar content. (Anal
ly the Italian prune is somewhat
tart and tins a peculiar biting fla
vor. This year they are almost as
sweet as the French prune.
The prune harvest Is rapidly
neailng a close, and drying Is ex
pected to continue for only about
a week more. Driers havo been
closed down on most of tho orch
ards now. ns tho crop generally
was (pi lie light, but in the southern
pnrt of the county, where tho or
chards had a normal crop, picking
will continue several days.

Buoyancy of the high priced indus
trial specialties featured the

movement in prices In today's stock
market. A fusJcr easiness of
money rates stimulated pool ac
tivity In the low-priced industrials,
more than a score of which were
lifted to new peak prices for the
year. Bear traders feeling for the
top of the market Indulged in some
experimental short selling after
mid-day but offerings were gener
ally well absorbed. Kalis again lag

taking caused a reversal of the
price trend in the late dealings, al
though trading turned dull on the
reaction. American Can fell six
points from the day's high, and
New York Airbrako receded four,
while losses of 1 to 2 Vk points were
common among tho railroad
steel, oil and motor issues. Total
sales approximated 1,600,000 shares
