CALL FOR L First call for football tryoute will bo issued September 21, ac cording to thu announcement of Hollls Huntington, coach of the Salem high school. Huntington Is In a great mood right now as he will more than likely havo worlds of good material to pick from this year. He expects between 35 and 40 to turnout for Biilts when the call is issued. Two stare from last year's team will be absent this year and their less will be felt keenly. The two men lost through gradua tion are Hecnan and Gould. Gould starred at full last year and Heenan played quarter. Hee nan will be missed the keenest it Is thought as he was fast and could return punts ttf great advnntage. However, new stars are showing up every day and the prospects for a winner are bright. Last year the red and black eleven hnd only four games on its schedule but ex pects to have a better one this sea- eon. They have five or six games arranged so far and have posslblli- tlofl of Beveral more. The locals have games scheduled with Corvallls on November 21 to be played at Corvallls. They are to meet Eugene here on November 11. Other games scheduled are with Monmouth normal, Albany and Hlllsboro. A gnme with Che mawa is being arranged. Astoria will play the locals If a date that suits both schools can be arranged. Huntington will play them a game on the 3rd or 17th of October here, with a return game to be played thero next year if either of those dates are all right with Astoria. Games cannot be arranged with the Portland school elevens as they are unable to play outside of the high school schedule after It gets started. Several of the Portland chools were desirous of playing before school started but that was impossible. Huntington Is holding off for a while to find the best eleven In Portland for a game to bo played here on Thanksgiving day. Washington, Jefferson and Franklin are the most likely rivals. Bob Drager stands out as the most likely candidate for Heenan"s plnce at quarter. He Is (.ble to run tho team In excellent manner but will not be as fast at safety as lice nan. If Huntington can develop & man to return punts with Drager at quarter he will havo filled one of the holes left vacant. Nocske who played halt last year has returned and hla entrance will etrongthen the team considerably. Most of ths biickfield will be in experienced but we will have "a bear of a line," claimed Hunting ton yesterdny. Men vvho are ex pected out for the bnckfietd posi tions are Kelly, captain, French and possibly Lyons who was out Inst year . Several stars from the Junior high school are expected to add materially to the backfield. They are Bache, Phillips and Kep-i plnger. Both Phillips and Kep-1 piuger are declared to be vuod and Phillips Is said to be a good punt er. He Is fast and will more than likely be given a chance to return tho enemy punts. OHnger, Temple and Lyons will be back for their old positions at end. John Drager and Blaoo a junior high man will probably be out for tackle. Huntington has several good prospects in Jackson, Davis, H. Lyons, for guards. Ecker a graduate of the junior high school stands out as the most like ly candidate for center although Bob Ashby, second team center of last year may be used. Dolby, a guard from California Is also pret ty good It Is claimed. Rex Jones, a brother of Lynn Jones Is also a likely looking prospect and with the other material which will bo out the locals are looking for a good team.
