The to tal expenditure for new buildings represented by permits for tbu first seven months of this year is 11,483,665. Of the tolnl for August, 27 of the 41 permits were for new dwelllne houses .aggregating 170 350. Two were for store buildings costing (12,000, one a concrete mill cost $35,000, one an apart ment house to cost $6400. The eight permits for repair ot exist ing buildings total $0300. TURN OVER FROM LAND : BOARD TOTALS $88,759 During the month ot August George G. Brown, clork of the state land board, turned over to the state treasurer a total of $88,- 759. The items ware: Common school fund principal, payments on loans, $48,911.50; common school fund principal, in come sources, $7348.61; common school fund interest, $25,639.05; agricultural college fund interest, $668.50; university fund princi pal, payments on loans, $800 uni versity fund interest, $433.47; rural credits loau fund principal. $2693.64; rural credits reserve fund Interest, $1605.05; A. It Burhank trust fund interest, $94.28; Appcrson fund interest, $576; total, $88,759. Mystery concerning disposition made of the brain of Mrs. Helen H. Gardner, late member of the civil service commission, wa cleared up yesterday with an nouncement by executors of her estate that the organ had been sent to Cornell university Satur day In accordance with the terms of her will. The unique bequest came to light several weeks ago when the will was filed for probate, but at that time conflicting statements wero made as to whether the brain had been removed and whether It had been sent to the university.
