For the first time anywhere, autos have been "taught" to do the "shimmy atrol." This is an invention of two of the show's hundred clowna. The foregoing are but some of the novelties. Apart from them will be th? brilliant feats of more than SOO of the world's greatest bareback riders, aerialists, gym nasts and ground athletes, magnlfi cent pageants, a menagerie of a thousand rare animals, hippodrome contests and other features. Per formances will bo at 2 and 8 and the doors open an hour earlier Tickets will be on sale throughout show day at Patton Brothers book store, 340 State street. SCOUTS TO TAKE 6 DAY HIKE INTO CASCADE WILDS Announcement wa6 made yes terday by Harold "Ware, local boy scout executive, ot a 6 day hike to be taken by Salem ecoute, be ginning next Tuesday, Sept. 1. The scoute will go as far as Mill City, and if po&ille to Detroit, by automobile before etarting on afoot. Taking the Alinto trail, they hope to arrive at Marion lake, some 24 miles from Detroit, the first night. If the group does not get as far ns Marion lake the first night it will camp along the route at some convenient point and go on to the lake. the follow ing morning, spending the sec ond day at the lake. On the third day they will go south to Lake Mowicb, tak ing the Skyline trail from there to Lake Duffy, Jtid then a cently established trail from Lake Duffy to Lava lake, where they will stop the third night. The following day the scouts will go on to Fish lake, a few miles distant, Inspecting a ceu tral dispensing station , for tire fighting equipment and on to Clear lake. From Clear Lake the course undetermined. When he gets there he will see how the boys (eel, Ware states. I! they care to go down the south fork ot the Santiam through Cnscadla and Albany and home, he will go by that route. If, however, they care to make a longer trip of it by doubling back to Detroit on the Coffin Mountain trail, he will make that trip. The scouts will pack about 30 or 35 pounds apiece. They will carry all their "grub" which will consist of condensed and dehy drated food. The party will be limited to 10 older scouts. "All members ot the local boy scouts who care to make the trip should see me about it at once, said Harold Ware yesterday. BROAD JUMP RECORD SET Paris, Aug. 28 (A. P.) Syl vio Cateor of Haiti, a student i the University of Paris, has shat tered the French broad jump rec ord with a leap of 7.72 meters or a fraction over H5 feet, 4 inches. Cateor thus becomes the fourth man to accomplish a record jump of more than 25 feet. The others are Robert Lesendre, Edward O, Oourdin and DcHart Hubbard, all Americans. Strike Called Off. Brussels. Aug. 28. (A. P.) Metal workers, 30,000 of whom have been on strike for a month, today voted to resume work Mon day under a compromise which it is considered certain the employ ers will accept. The compromise involves a reduction in wages.
